Calling all Glee fans! One of the musical dramedy's most famous stars landed a new role on Netflix, and it's one that the littlest Netflix watchers in your house will enjoy. As reported by Deadline, Darren Criss has signed on for a voice role in the hit preschool animated series Gabby's Dollhouse. Criss will be heard in season 10, which makes its premiere on Monday, Aug. 5.
The multitalented actor will play Marty the Party Cat, a new Gabby Cat in Gabby's Dollhouse who lives in the Party Room. With the use of his magical Party Tail, Marty the Party Cat has the ability to redesign the Party Room for any party's theme. He also has an affinity for singing, dancing, playing games, and throwing confetti. Sounds like we'll be hearing Criss sing as an animated cat!
Gabby's Dollhouse, which comes from DreamWorks Animation, has aired nine seasons on Netflix, beginning with the first in 2021 and the most recent ninth season in March 2024. The series stars Laila Lockhart Kraner as Gabby, both live-action and animated. Ahead of season 10, the popular children's series has produced 64 episodes, and there's no sign of it slowing down.
Criss has been best known for his work in the Fox television series Glee, in which he played prep school singer Blaine Anderson for five of its six seasons. He's gone on to star in a number of movies and television series, including the Netflix original miniseries Hollywood.
He won an Emmy Award and additional awards for his incredible work in the series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Most recently, Criss has been starring in theatre productions such as American Buffalo, Little Shop of Horrors, and Maybe Happy Ending.
In 2022, Criss and his wife Mia welcomed their first child, a daughter named Bluesy Bell Criss, and in December 2023, the couple announced they are expecting a second child. No doubt, Criss' daughter is a fan of Gabby's Dollhouse and will love hearing her dad sing and voice a character in the show. After all, it's not like she's been able to watch much of his work, unless Bluesy happens to be into his Superman voice roles or has already started binge-watching Glee.
