Colin Farrell to star in new Netflix film from All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger

Golden Globe Award-winning actor Colin Farrell continues to stay booked and busy. He's currently starring in the mystery drama series Sugar on Apple TV+, and he has several other projects that he's working on. We've just learned of a new project that he will star in, and this time it's for Netflix.

Farrell will be making his Netflix debut with a new movie titled The Ballad Of A Small Player. Academy Award-winning German-Austrian director Edward Berger is set to direct from a screenplay written by Rowan Joffé. Berger is known for co-writing and directing the epic anti-war film All Quiet on the Western Front, while Joffé is best known for writing the screenplay and helming the psychological thriller flick Before I Go to Sleep. In addition, the upcoming Netflix film is based on the 2014 novel of the same name by British author Lawrence Osborne.

Berger will produce for Nine Hours, Mike Goodridge for Good Chaos, and Matthew James Wilkinson for Stigma Films. This will be the first project under Berger's creative partnership and global first-look deal with Netflix through his production company, Nine Hours.

The story follows Lord Doyle, a high-stakes gambler with a troubled past who is struggling with debts. In an effort to keep a low profile, he lays low in Macau. But then, one day, he meets a kindred spirit "who might just hold the key to his salvation."

Farrell stars in the leading role of the gambler, Lord Doyle. One of his most recent projects, besides starring in Sugar, was starring in the black tragicomedy film The Banshees of Inisherin. Unfortunately, Farrell is the only cast member to be announced so far. Production is slated to start on location in Asia in the summer of 2024, so we should be hearing of new cast additions very soon. We'll definitely come back to share who has joined the cast as we find out.
