We're nearing the end of January, but before we cross over to the next month, Netflix made sure to release a new K-Drama titled Captivating the King. The first two episodes of the Korean series were released on Jan. 21, and you can expect many more episodes to be released soon.

Captivating the King is a romantic period drama series developed by Studio Dragon. You might know Studio Dragon as the production company that made the popular Korean drama Crash Landing on You. This production company is also known for producing other Korean series such as Sweet Home, Little Women, Celebrity, and Doona! Additionally, Kim Seon-deok wrote the scripts for Captivating the King while Jo Nam-guk directed the episodes.

The romantic drama tells the complicated love story of a miserable king named Yi In, who is dealing with power struggles and doesn't know who to trust, and a baduk player named Kang Hee-soo, who initially seduces Yi In for revenge but ends up falling in love with him instead.

South Korean actor Jo Jung-suk portrays the role of Yi In. He's best known for his previous roles in the Korean series Oh My Ghost and Hospital Playlist. Shin Se-kyung plays the role of Kang Hee-soo. You might recognize her from her previous roles in the Korean shows A Girl Who Sees Smells, Run On and Arthdal Chronicles.
