What is Música about?

Música was directed by Rudy Mancuso from a screenplay he co-wrote with Dan Lagana. Mancuso is best known for making comedy skits with his friends on YouTube. He made his feature film directorial debut with this rom-com. And not only did he work behind the scenes on this film, but also in front of the camera. He stars in the leading role in fact.

Described as a coming-of-age romantic comedy, Música follows Rudy, a young man and aspiring creative with synesthesia, who tries his best to navigate his complicated life and relationships while living in Newark, New Jersey.

Mancuso plays Rudy, while Camila Mendes portrays Isabella, Rudy's love interest. Mancuso previously starred in the Netflix movie Rim of the World and in the superhero film The Flash. As mentioned above, Mendes is known for her role as Veronica Lodge in the teen series Riverdale. She also starred as Drea in the Netflix teen black comedy film Do Revenge.

Other talented actors such as J.B. Smoove, Francesca Reale, Maria Mancuso, Gabriela Amerth, Andy Grotelueschen, Camila Senna, and Regina Schneider are also in the cast.

The movie just came out, and it looks like it's a hit with critics and viewers alike. It has a 95% Tomatometer score and an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Here's what some critics had to say about the rom-com via Rotten Tomatoes:

"Música heralds the arrival of a filmmaker, an actor, and a musician worth paying attention to, while also delivering a winning and visually inventive musical comedy."

Rafael Motamayor from IndieWire

"Even when its narrative tips into clichéd territory, Música’s aesthetic remains loose and kinetic — an exciting reflection of its creator’s spirit."

Lovia Gyarkye from Hollywood Reporter
