Bodkin and the 3 best crime dramas to watch on Netflix in May 2024
By Bryce Olin
There's nothing better than watching a late-night crime drama on Netflix. Luckily, there are a bunch of new and upcoming Netflix crime dramas to watch right now. So, if you're working late (because you're a singer) and you need a new crime show to watch on Netflix, we have the perfect list for you. No, it's not that me espresso, but it's the next best thing.
On Thursday, May 9, Netflix dropped a new crime series, Bodkin, and I really, really think it's great. It's not getting the buzz it deserves just yet. After watching the full first season and analyzing the ending over and over, I had high hopes the series would be right behind Bridgerton season 3 on the Netflix Top 10 for May. Maybe that'll happen, but it's off to a slow start. I'm trying to change that.
Bodkin
Bodkin is such a good crime and mystery series! Created by Jez Scharf, Bodkin has an incredible cast led by Will Forte, Robyn Cara, and Siobhán Cullen. The series follows three podcasters, Gilbert, who is trying to recapture the success he once had, Emmy, his assistant, and Dove, a journalist who did something really bad and got assigned to a remote Irish village to help a podcaster. They're investigating a cold case in the small town of Bodkin.
I won't spoil the series for you, but it gets so wild. You'll never see the twists and turns coming. Plus, the show is deeply funny in dark ways. Yes, there's crime and drama, but there's also dark comedy. What more could you ask for?
The Asunta Case
The Asunta Case is a new Netflix series from Spain. It's based on the true story of Asunta Basterra, a young girl who was murdered. After her parents report her missing, Asunta's body is found and the parents become the subjects of the criminal investigation. The Netflix series was created by Ramón Campos, Gema R. Neira, Jon de la Cuesta, and David Orea Arribas. It stars Candela Peña, Tristán Ulloa, Javier Gutiérrez, Carlos Blanco, María León, Francesc Orella, Alicia Borrachero, and Iris Wu.
The Asunta Case premiered on Netflix on April 26, 2024, and it's been on the Netflix Top 10 since its premiere. If true crime is your genre, we highly recommend The Asunta Case on Netflix.
Deliver Me
Deliver Me is the most intriguing and underrated title on this list. The Nordic series is based on Malin Persson Giolito's novel of the same name. It follows the story of a child who is recruited by a gang and commits a crime. The investigation tries to hold the gang leaders responsible while the child's life and future hang in the balance. The series stars Yasir Hassan, Olle Strand, Yusra Warsama, Ane Dahl Torp, Henrik Norlén, Ardalan Esmaili, Mahmut Suvakci, Solomon Njie, and Abdirahman Mohamed. It was created by Alex Haridi and Amanda Högberg.
Here's the synopsis of the series, via Netflix:
"When teenagers Billy and Dogge are recruited by a local gang, the friends face a violent world they are too young to protect themselves from. The team behind the award-winning "Quicksand" brings a harrowing look at a community that fails its youngest."
Eric
Benedict Cumberbatch in a Netflix crime drama? Say no more. I'm tempted to end the write-up there, but there's so much more to say!
Eric premieres on Netflix on May 30, so you have a bit of time to wait before watching the new series. The series tells the story of a father, Vincent, played by Cumberbatch, and the search to find his child after the young boy goes missing from New York City in the 1980s.
That's the list of the top crime dramas to watch on Netflix in May! Start with Bodkin tonight and work through the rest of the Netflix shows later.
