Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F soundtrack features a mix of throwbacks and new hits

A new era of Beverly Hills Cop has landed on Netflix with the July 3 release of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the fourth movie in the franchise and the first new sequel in 30 years. Without a doubt, it's sure to be one of the biggest Netflix movies of the year as fans new and old catch up with Eddie Murphy's iconic character Axel Foley and join him on his newest case.

One of the things that has been so enduring about the Beverly Hills Cop movies, aside from their place in pop culture as one of the most celebrated film franchises from the '80s, is the music. Of course, it wouldn't be a Beverly Hills Cop movie without Axel Foley's legendary theme music. The song shares a title with the movie, "Axel F," and is sampled in Lil Nas X's original song for the movie called "HERE WE GO!" If you didn't grow up with these movies, you might know "Axel F" best from a season 5 episode of Family Guy, in which Peter dances and sings the tune. Peter's version has gone viral on TikTok in recent years.

Harold Faltermeyer composed the score for the first two movies and created the "Axel F" theme song, while the third movie's music was composed by Nile Rodgers.
