Are you looking for something a little more lighthearted than the frequent mature movies and television shows often released on Netflix? Maybe something that hugs the boundary between family-friendly and a hard-R rating? Then these PG-13 films streaming on Netflix right now should fit the bill perfectly!

Damsel (2024)

  • Director: Juan Carlos Fresnadillo
  • Cast: Millie Bobby Brown, Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Angela Bassett, and Robin Wright

Stunning production design mixed with a plucky performance from Netflix star Millie Bobby Brown makes Damsel a dark fantasy film worth investing in. Brown plays a brave young heroine tricked into marrying a handsome prince, only to discover his family plans to sacrifice her to a fire-breathing dragon to pay back an ancient blood debt. I also highly recommend checking out the novel version of the movie by Evelyn Skye to learn more about the rich fantasy world in which the story is set.

Missing (2023)

  • Director: Will Merrick and Nick Johnson
  • Cast: Storm Reid, Joaquim de Almeida, Ken Leung, Amy Landecker, Daniel Henney, and Nia Long

Looking for something a little darker to watch that still falls within the PG-13 realm? Missing is a fantastic and well-made screenlife thriller about a young woman (Storm Reid) who only has technology at her disposal when her mother goes missing while on a vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend. If you enjoy other films from this genre, like Searching (Missing is a spinoff sequel) or Unfriended, I highly recommend checking this one out.
