The Fall of the House of Usher
It's the end of a truly remarkable era at Netflix as Mike Flanagan is packing it up and moving to Amazon for his future projects. However, he couldn't leave without giving us yet another masterpiece. The Fall of the House of Usher ranks up there among the best of Flanagan's works, with The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass.
Based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, The Fall of the House of Usher follows the downfall of the titular Usher family. In this universe, the Ushers are kind of a stand-in for the Sackler family of the infamous Purdue dynasty. The Ushers are an uber-wealthy family headed by twins Roderick (Bruce Greenwood) and Madeline Usher (Mary McDonnell). They run an extremely successful pharmaceutical company called Fortunato and have used it to create a blockbuster drug that's led to the death of countless people throughout the years due to shady marketing practices.
But their empire starts crumbling when members of the Usher family die off one by one. Each of Roderick's children perishes in a different and horrifying way and the series follows those deaths and the mystery behind it. It's an excellent series with an amazing cast full of Flanagan regulars like Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Carla Gugino, Ruth Codd, Samantha Sloyan, and more.
