Mask Girl

I briefly mentioned Mask Girl earlier in this article when referring to The Glory's Yeom Hye-ran, who also stars in Mask Girl, though her role in this movie is much different. Mask Girl is based on the Naver webtoon of the same name and is one of my favorite shows of the year across the board.

It's so well done and the performances from the entire cast are excellent, with special mention to Nana, Lee Han-byeol, and Han Jae-Yi. The show follows an introverted office worker named Mo-mi who believes she's very ugly and has been treated as such by everyone in her life, including her own mother. But when she's not at work, Mo-mi creates an online persona known as "Mask Girl" who becomes very famous on the internet.

Unfortunately, after a terrible incident occurs, Mo-mi's life begins unraveling and everything ties back to Mask Girl. The show takes place across different phases in Mo-mi's life, and the character is played by several different actresses as Mo-mi undergoes plastic surgery and does whatever she can to escape from a devastating mess that leaves a pissed-off mother intent on seeking revenge against her. Mask Girl is another Korean original on Netflix that should not be missed.
