There's nothing that brings comfort quite like a romantic comedy, and thankfully, a fair amount of rom-coms are ready to be watched right now on Netflix. Unfortunately, the buzzy new one starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine won't be heading to your Netflix watch list. The Idea of You premieres Thursday, May 2 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Based on the novel of the same name by Robinne Lee, The Idea of You was directed by Michael Showalter and co-written by Showalter and Jennifer Westfeldt. In the movie, 20-something musician Hayes Campbell (who may or may not be based on Harry Styles) starts a relationship with 40-year-old single mother Solène Marchand. Ahead of its release, the movie has been receiving a fair amount of press, which includes critical praise as the film currently holds an impressive 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Without a doubt, The Idea of You will be one of the biggest movies on streaming in May 2024 thanks in no small part to starring a beloved Academy Award winner (Anne Hathaway) and one of the most adored rising young stars out there right now (Nicholas Galitzine). Get ready for everyone to be talking about this movie up and down the timeline for weeks!

Here's the movie's official synopsis via Amazon Prime Video:

"Based on the acclaimed, contemporary love story of the same name, The Idea of You centers on Solène (Anne Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet. When Solène must step in to chaperone her teenage daughter’s trip to the Coachella Music Festival after her ex bails at the last minute, she has a chance encounter with Hayes and there is an instant, undeniable spark. As they begin a whirlwind romance, it isn’t long before Hayes’ superstar status poses unavoidable challenges to their relationship, and Solène soon discovers that life in the glare of his spotlight might be more than she bargained for."

Just as he has in past movies like The Beat Beneath My Feet, Cinderella, and even Red, White & Royal Blue, Galitzine lends his talented singing voice to the film. He's the lead singer of the fictional band August Moon, and prior to the release of the movie, the band released three songs, including "Dance Before We Walk," "Closer," and "Taste." The songs were co-written by Carl Falk and Savan Kotecha, who have been responsible for crafting hits for the likes of Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, and yes... One Direction.

If you're looking to watch Hathaway on Netflix, you can watch the Oscar winner in the films The Last Thing He Wanted and Dark Waters on the streaming service. You can also check out Galitzine in the aforementioned Netflix original romantic drama movie Purple Hearts as well as the supernatural teen series Chambers.
