The annual game has changed a lot over the years but the ongoing theme of the Pro Bowl is to celebrate the best players in the league and bring them together in a showdown between the AFC and NFC divisions.
Over the years some of the greatest to ever play the game have been voted to the Pro Bowl with countless Super Bowl champions and Hall of Fame players being voted to the Pro Bowl. It’s a celebration of those who are at the top of their field and a way to recognize individual players, which typically results in the top players in their positions getting nominated to the Pro Bowl rosters… at least most of the time.
There are always snubs and one of the most glaring omissions in the 2024 Pro Bowl roster was without a doubt Detroit Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Amon-Ra St. Brown felt disrespected he didn’t make the 2024 Pro Bowl
When Amon-Ra St. Brown failed to make the 2024 Pro Bowl Roster, Detroit Lions fans weren't the only ones blindsided by the snub. After putting up another standout season on the team as their star wide receiver, Brown was somehow shut out of the Pro Bowl voting and it understandably did not sit well with him.
In the sixth episode of Netflix’s Receiver, we got an inside glimpse into the week the 2024 Pro Bowl roster was revealed to the Lions team during a Wednesday team meeting which was when St. Brown discovered he didn’t make the cut – an omission he candidly confessed made him furious.
“I wasn’t on there, I didn’t make it. I was hot, I was furious,” St. Brown recalled. “You know, I wouldn’t say that I was as mad as I was during draft day, but I would say it was second to that.”
While St. Brown admits to understanding not making the Pro Bowl roster the previous year as the team didn’t get quite as much exposure, being overlooked during the 2023-24 NFL season in which the Lions enjoyed one of their best seasons ever left him feeling disrespected as a player.
“I feel disrespected as a player a little bit. I feel like I had a pretty good season this year. Pretty good team. I told myself last year after I didn’t make it, it’s probably because we didn’t have enough primetime games, not enough people saw us. We weren’t winning early on and this year we had more primetime games, we won more games. But obviously, it wasn’t enough it seems so I gotta do more,” St. Brown reflected.
We definitely understand his frustration as he indeed had an amazing season and should have made it onto the Pro Bowl roster. We can only hope that the fans will take note and help St. Brown secure his well-earned place on the Pro Bowl team!
