The world has just gotten a little brighter with the news that Netflix is developing a sequel series to A Different World. Can you believe it? We couldn't be more excited about this incredible news!

If you didn't know, A Different World is an iconic late '80s Black sitcom that aired on NBC for six seasons from 1987 to 1993. It's a spinoff of another classic Black sitcom The Cosby Show, and it follows the lives of the students and staff at Hillman College, a fictional, historically Black college in Virginia.

This show even launched the acting careers of talented individuals such as Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Marisa Tomei, and many others. Other cast members included Lisa Bonet, Dawnn Lewis, Mary Alice, Darryl M. Bell, Sinbad, Charnele Brown, Cree Summer, and Glynn Turman.

While the first season mainly centered around Bonet's Denise Huxtable character, the subsequent seasons followed Denise's friends' lives since Bonet chose to exit the series after the first season. Whitley and Dwayne (Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison), who were more like side characters in the first season, took center stage in season 2 and onward. Viewers got to see their somewhat of an enemies-to-lovers love story play out throughout the television series.

They eventually go on to get married, have successful careers, and have their first child. According to Deadline, the A Different World sequel series will follow Whitley and Dwayne's young adult daughter's college experience at their alma mater, Hillman College. However, it's unclear if this is Whitley and Dwayne's first child. Deadline reports that the sequel will revolve around the beloved couple's "youngest daughter," so it looks like they ended up having more than one kid.

TV writer and producer Felicia Pride, who is best known for writing for other TV shows such as Grey's Anatomy and Queen Sugar, is in charge of the sequel series and will also executive produce. She also serves as a supervising producer on the Peacock drama series Bel-Air. Other executive producers on the sequel series include Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood, some of whom previously worked on the original series.

No actors have been cast yet, but discussions with some of the original cast members to potentially reprise their roles have been reportedly had. Since the sequel centers around Whitley and Dwayne's kid, it would only make sense for Guy and Hardison to come back. Fingers crossed, a contract will eventually be signed so that they can reprise their roles!

That's all we know about the A Different World sequel series as of right now. We'll continue to update you with new information about the sequel as it is released. So, stay tuned to Netflix Life!
