October is here, which means spooky season is in full swing. How should you celebrate, you ask? By diving headfirst into every horror movie you can find! And do you know who's carrying some of the best horror films at the moment? Well, that'll be everyone's favorite streaming platform. Netflix!
In fact, the streaming giant is slated to receive a new horror flick from this year very soon. Critics might not have enjoyed this movie back when it hit theaters in July, but most regular moviegoers thought it was pretty solid. I Know What You Did Last Summer is confirmed to be making its official streaming debut on Netflix next week! The exact release date is Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025. The movie's title page on Netflix even has this same date. So, it will definitely be making its way to the platform on Oct. 16.
Now, don't get this movie confused with the original 1997 slasher that starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr. as four teens who accidentally cover up a deadly accident only to find themselves being hunted by a mysterious killer one year later. Instead, it's a legacy sequel that focuses on a new group of teens who find themselves in a similar situation. However, Hewitt and Prinze Jr. do reprise their roles as Julie and Ray. OG fans will be excited about this.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson directed I Know What You Did Last Summer from a screenplay that she co-wrote with Sam Lansky. Robinson is best known for helming and writing the scripts for two Netflix movies, Someone Great and Do Revenge. Lansky, on the other hand, was signed on as an executive producer on the drama film I Wish You All the Best.
As mentioned earlier, the film's plot is quite similar to the 1997 classic. You have a group of five friends who, after a reckless night on July 4th, accidentally cause a fatal car accident on Reaper’s Curve. Rather than coming clean, they make a pact to keep it a secret. Fast forward a year, and their past comes back to haunt them in the most terrifying way possible.
They begin receiving ominous messages and realize someone is stalking them. Desperate for answers, the teens turn to Julie James and Ray Bronson, the only survivors from the original tragedy, hoping they can help confront the murderous Fisherman and put an end to the cycle of horror.
Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline plays the role of Danica, one of the young adults who becomes trapped in a terrifying game of cat and mouse with a hook-wielding killer. Chase Sui Wonders (Ava), Jonah Hauer-King (Milo), Tyriq Withers (Teddy), and Sarah Pidgeon (Stevie) portray the other four young adults who are friends with Danica. Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, and Austin Nichols also star.

Unfortunately, the original movie is not available to stream on Netflix nor will it be coming to the platform on the same day as the 2025 film. However, fans can stream the 1998 sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. It's currently streaming on Netflix, and a removal date has not been set yet.
