There's a very obvious reason why The Madness won't be back for another season.

Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Colman Domingo stars in Netflix's conspiracy thriller series The Madness, which made its premiere on Nov. 28, Thanksgiving Day. The series has been one of the most highly anticipated Netflix new releases of 2024, Domingo's first major television role since earning his Emmy win in 2022 for his performance in HBO's Euphoria.

The Madness comes from creator Stephen Belber, who's known for his work on projects like The Laramie Project, O.G., Rescue Me, Tommy, and What We Do Next. In the series, Domingo stars as political media pundit Muncie Daniels, whose life is turned upside down when he finds a body in the woods and becomes a suspect for the crime he didn't commit. What results is a dangerous conspiracy.

After finishing a Netflix binge-watch, the natural question everyone asks is whether there will be another season. You'll probably have the same question after consuming all eight gripping episodes of The Madness, but there's some bad news in regard to the potential of a second season. The Madness season 2 isn't expected to be in the cards for a very understandable reason.

Why The Madness season 2 likely won't happen

There's a key reason to why The Madness season 2 isn't likely for those who might have wanted more after the eight-episode season. Netflix has designated the conspiracy thriller as a limited series, which means The Madness was designed to tell a self-contained story and did so by the series finale. The show fulfills its promise and doesn't leave any significant loose ends hanging for viewers.

Without giving away any major spoilers that will ruin the viewing experience, The Madness comes to its natural conclusion with a violent turn of events as the mystery reaches its resolution. But it's not all doom and gloom at the end, especially not for Muncie. There's some hope in the ending that's definitely earned after the what Muncie endures throughout the series.

Even though some shows have been designated as "limited series" in the past, they have returned for follow-up seasons, whether as direct continuations (Big Little Lies) or in an anthology format (The White Lotus). Netflix hasn't historically walked back limited series orders, apart from Beef, which will return for a second anthology-ified season, and The Watcher, which has yet to return for season 2.

Obviously, there's a world in which The Madness could dominate in viewership and Netflix could opt to renew another season and either continue telling Muncie's story or go the anthology route and track more conspiracy "madness" in a brand new story. But given its limited series billing, it's best not to keep your hopes up too high for a second season renewal.

Watch The Madness only on Netflix.
