Amsterdam Empire

  • Netflix release date: Oct. 30, 2025

Famke Janssen stars in this new Netflix series. Need I say more? Amsterdam Empire is for those who enjoy watching crime dramas because that's exactly what this show is. However, keep in mind that it's in Dutch. If you're a fan of Janssen, you're probably used to her starring in big English-language hits like X-Men, Taken or Hemlock Grove. But here, she returns to her roots, taking on a juicy role that lets her flex her dramatic chops in a whole new way.

The series follows Jack van Doorn, the ambitious and notorious founder of a booming coffee shop empire in Amsterdam, and his wife Betty, a former pop diva with a sharp mind and a thirst for revenge. As Jack’s affair with a high-profile journalist comes to light, Betty seizes the opportunity to turn the tables and take control of the empire he built.

Janssen stars as Betty, while Jacob Derwig takes on the role of Jack. Also in the cast are Jade Olieberg, Elise Schaap, Yannick van de Velde, Jesse Mensah, and others.

As Hui-su struggles under the control of her abusive husband, Eun-su steps in, and the two friends are driven to take drastic, life-altering action to protect themselves. Yoo-mi takes on the role of Hui-su, with So-nee playing Eun-su.
