How do you pick up on the success of a sport-themed comedy series like Ted Lasso move it from England to the U.S., from soccer to basketball, and bring it to your streaming service?
Netflix’s answer to that question just might be Award-worthy. The new series stars Kate Hudson, the Golden Globe winner and Academy Award-nominated actor who is also an executive producer of the new sitcom. The series is set to premiere on February 27, 2025.
But what is the premise of Running Point?
Everything you want to know about the Kate Hudson-led Netflix comedy series, Running Point
Hudson plays Isla Gordon, the only sister in a family of brothers who is suddenly (and unexpectedly) appointed as the head of a family business. Yet, instead of making dolls or nails, that business is one of the most established basketball franchises in the United States.
Everybody is skeptical of the move, from her brothers to the sports community at large, but Isla (Hudson) seems to be dead set on proving them all wrong. Oh, and that also includes all the players and staffers of the team, both filled with intriguing and disparate characters.
In the hands of a less talented actress than Hudson, the show might have gone awry quite quickly. Thankfully, that does not appear to be the case here.
Along with Hudson, the cast seems to be a good fit both for Hudson and the series theme. It includes Scott MacArthur and Drew Tarver as Isla’s brothers, Max Greenfield as her fiancé, Brenda Song as a high-level team staffer, as well as others.
You might know MacArthur from his work as the Devil (literally) and Scotty on the excellent Max comedy, The Righteous Gemstones.
With such a premise and concept and Hudson at the forefront, Running Point seems to be bound to turn into a comedy hit.
