Netflix gave subscribers a nice surprise recently. Sure, your favorite streamer gives us tons of original movies and series, but Netflix is also really good about scooping up series that other studios were making. Their loss is our gain.
The latest example of this is The Hunting Wives, which began on Starz but is now moving to Netflix. This isn't a show currently in production or simply the kernel of an idea, though. It's wrapped and ready. In fact, it will be arriving on your favorite streamer on Monday, July 21, 2025.
The first season of the series will have an eight-episode arc, and the entire season is likely to drop on day one. That is simply a guess, and there has been no official word, of course, but that is usually how Netflix does business.
Netflix viewers get the gift of The Hunting Wives in July
The show is a thriller that revolves around a family relocating from the East Coast to East Texas. The politics of the family might not fully align with their new neighbors, but the family's patriarch, Sophie O'Neil (Brittany Snow), wants to get to know socialite Margo Banks (Malin Akerman) better. That is when things start to go awry.
Murder is involved, along with the normal dramatic elements of obsession and seduction. It's likely steamy and a bit soapy, but dark fun.
The series is based on the novel of the same name by May Cobb. The book was original published in 2021, and was a bestseller for some time after its release.
As far as the cast, you will recognize many of the actors. Dermot Mulroney plays Jed Banks, and Mulroney has appeared in such titles as My Best Friend's Wedding and The Righteous Gemstones. Lead Akerman has been seen in Rampage and 27 Dresses, among other projects. Brittany Snow has appeared in the Pitch Perfect franchise.
