We're over halfway through 2025, and we've seen a ton of great new and returning Netflix shows, including Adolescence, Squid Game season 3, Ginny and Georgia season 3, Ransom Canyon, The Night Agent season 2, and many more.
Unfortunately, not all of the new Netflix shows of the year have been destined for greatness. Netflix has already canceled four shows in 2025 so far. There are probably a few more about to get the ax, too.
We shared the list of Netflix shows canceled in 2025 so far, starting with my favorite show on the list, The Recruit.
The Recruit

After a two-year break between seasons 1 and 2, The Recruit premiered on Netflix at the end of January, one week after The Night Agent season 2. Things looked pretty good for The Recruit season 2 right out of the gate, but viewership dropped off quickly, especially compared to some of the big Netflix shows.
Even though The Recruit season 2 starring Noah Centineo was a really good, funny, and moving season, Netflix officially canceled The Recruit after season 2. To me, it proves that the bar for Netflix shows to score a renewal is getting even harder, especially for an action series with a moderate budget.
There was some chatter about a movie special to finish The Recruit's story, but it doesn't look like that's gained much traction recently.
Territory

Territory looked like it could be Netflix's version of Yellowstone when it premiered in October 2024. While it was well-received critically, the Australian series just failed to catch on in the mainstream. It was canceled in February 2025.
Territory showed a lot of promise. The series starred Netflix stars Sam Corlett, Anna Torv, and Robert Taylor. With a stacked cast and a good premise, Territory had so much potential, but that only goes so far on Netflix. It's super hard to score that season 2 renewal, and Netflix chose to move on.
If you still haven't watched Territory and you're a fan of shows like Yellowstone, it's still definitely worth a watch on Netflix right now.
The Residence

The Residence is probably the best show that Netflix has canceled this year. The hit mystery series is an incredibly smart, funny, and interesting new series. It's like if Knives Out took place behind-the-scenes at the White House. Uzo Aduba is fantastic as the quirky lead investigator Cordelia Cupp, as she tries to get to the bottom of it and solve a murder at the White House.
Unfortunately, the viewership just wasn't there to warrant a second season at Netflix. It's a shame because this show is so good, but it didn't necessarily need another season. The mystery comes to a satisfying conclusion in the finale. I would have happily taken more of this great series, though!
The Residence might feature the best Netflix cast of the year with Abuda, Giancarlo Esposito, Randall Park, Susan Kelechi Watson, Molly Griggs, Ken Marino, Jason Lee, and more.
Pulse

Pulse is the most surprising cancellation of the year so far! The viewership numbers probably back up Netflix's decision to cancel the series, but it's shocking that this show didn't get a longer leash, especially in the age of medical dramas and first responder shows. Pulse should have been renewed for season 2 because it had so much potential to improve, but that's just my opinion. It's not my money on the line, you know?
The Netflix original medical drama premiered in early April. While it featured a great cast led by Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell, Pulse premiered at a rough time, right as HBO Max's medical drama The Pitt was just catching on. I have no doubt that the comparisons of the shows didn't do Pulse any favors.
Unfortunately, it was revealed that Pulse and The Residence were canceled in July 2025, via Deadline.
So, that's the list of Netflix shows that were canceled this year so far. I know more cancellations are on the way, so if your favorite show is on the bubble, stay in line and keep watching!
Stay tuned for more renewal and cancellation news.
