It should be great.

It might come as a surprise that Netflix has never had its own English-language medical drama. Not that those shows are easier to make than any other genre, but there sure have been enough of them on television over the last several decades that Netflix might have made making one a priority. They didn't, but they are now.

Given a network-level budget, Pulse, starring Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell, will debut on Thursday, April 3. There will be a first-time creator, Zoe Robyn, in charge with the help of veteran showrunner, Carlton Cuse. Cuse might be best known for his work on the iconic series Lost.

The plot line involves a hospital in Miami that is beginning to deal with the effects of a hurricane hitting the area. The issue is that there is drama among the doctors. Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips, played by Woodell, has been suspended, and third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms, played by Fitzgerald, is promoted to his place.

New medical drama series Pulse will be released on Netflix in April

Phillips and Woodell, however, appear to have had a romantic relationship, and the details of that are beginning to emerge. The rest of the staff has to not only deal with the fallout from the news of the relationship but also try to save lives at the Level 1 trauma center who have been injured during the storm.

You might be familiar with both leads. Fitzgerald appeared in Netflix's fantastic The Fall of the House of Usher. She also was in The Goldfinch and Scream: The TV Series.

Woodell played Buzz Aldrin in last year's Fly Me to the Moon. He has also had roles in series such as The Flight Attendant and The Originals.

Other faces you might recognize in the cast include Justina Machado, Jack Bannon, Jessie T. Usher, Jessy Yates, Chelsea Muirhead, and Daniela Nieves. Néstor Carbonell also will have a small role. He recently won an Emmy for his work in Shōgun. Carbonell worked previously with Cuse when the actor played Richard Alpert on Lost.

Pulse is the third new medical series to drop this year so far. The Pitt was released on Max, FOX has Doc, and CBS has Watson. Hopefully, none of those series are better than how good the new Netflix show will be. We will find out in April.
