Netflix reportedly renews sexy Spanish medical drama for season 2

There's some exciting news to share for fans of Netflix's hit Spanish medical drama series Breathless. According to a report from Spanish news source FormulaTV, Netflix has officially renewed Breathless for a second season, and the new episodes are already in the works!

Back in August 2024, Breathless (also know as Respira in its native Spanish) made its premiere on Netflix and spent over one month on the streamer's global top 10 charts. The show racked up 16.2 million views, which translates to over 103 million viewing hours, per What's on Netflix.

It's no surprise that Breathless won global audiences over, as the medical drama comes from Carlos Montero, the co-creator of Elite, and featured an excellent cast telling gripping stories. And based on the season finale's cliffhanger ending, a second season was definitely a need.

Breathless season 2 allegedly in production

FormulaTV reveals that Breathless season 2 will follow suit with the hit series' debut season and contain eight episodes. The website also reveals that filming on the second season is currently underway, in spite of Netflix not sharing the renewal news (as of Dec. 6).

What's on Netflix had shared that additional season had been in the works before the series even premiered and that back in October 2024, there were already murmurs of season 2 beginning production at some point that month. Sounds like the rumors were true.

Renewing Breathless for a second season, and any additional ones after that, should be seen as nothing but an obvious choice for Netflix. Despite Grey's Anatomy, The Resident, and New Amsterdam being popular on the platform, there hadn't been a Netflix original medical drama.

Now, ahead of the release of Netflix's American medical drama Pulse sometime next year, the streamer has a proven original hit on their hands that connected with viewers and began to set up a foray into a new genre that's been a cornerstone of the small screen for decades.

As of this writing, other details about Breathless season 2 aren't readily available, including cast and release window information, but fans can assume what will happen next. A shocking attack from a patient leaves Jéssica's fate in question in the closing moments of season 1.

Hopefully, Netflix will reveal more teases for the new episodes sometime soon. For now, we can anticipate season 2 to potentially make its premiere sometime in summer or fall 2025 based on its current production status, but that's merely an early prediction.
