Few things are more frustrating for Netflix subscribers than discovering that a great show is suddenly on its way out the door. It’s become one of the most annoying realities of the streaming era. A series can sit on the platform for years, quietly waiting in your watchlist, only for Netflix to announce that it’s leaving just when you were finally planning to start it.
The dreaded “leaving soon” label has crushed the hopes of countless viewers who thought they had all the time in the world to dive into a new binge. And the worst part? It often happens to the shows that deserve the most attention. But unfortunately, this is the reality of licensed content. Streaming platforms don’t always own every title in their libraries, which means deals eventually expire and fan-favorite shows can disappear with little warning.
Sadly, it looks like that frustrating situation could be happening again soon. According to reports, Netflix will be losing a wildly underrated TV epic next month.
The complete Black Sails series could be leaving Netflix in April 2026

What's on Netflix was the first to report on this unfortunate news. According to the news outlet, the entire Black Sails series will reportedly be removed from Netflix this April. Yes, that means all four seasons. The exact removal date is set for Friday, April 17, 2026. Given that the complete series was added on April 17, 2024, it appears the streaming giant’s licensing deal was only for a two-year period.
However, keep in mind that Netflix has not officially confirmed the removal at this time. Still, if the reported date ends up being accurate, that means subscribers may only have a limited window left to watch Black Sails before it sails away from Netflix’s library. That said, now might be the perfect time to finally dive in if you’ve been sitting on this show in your watchlist for a while.
So, what is Black Sails all about? Well, it's a gritty historical adventure series that was created by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine. It aired on Starz from 2014 to 2017 and ran for four seasons, delivering a sweeping pirate saga that many fans consider one of the most underrated television epics.
Serving as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island novel, Black Sails takes place during the Golden Age of Piracy in the early 18th century. We follow the feared pirate captain, Captain Flint, as he navigates the dangerous world of piracy while searching for a massive Spanish treasure that could secure the future of pirates in the Caribbean.
Toby Stephens takes on the lead role of the ruthless and strategic captain, Flint. Also in the cast are other talented actors, including Hannah New, Luke Arnold, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Tom Hopper, Zach McGowan, Toby Schmitz, Clara Paget, Mark Ryan, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Sean Cameron Michael, and many others.
While we'd like the rumor of Black Sails' Netflix removal not to be true, we’ve got to face the reality that licensed content often comes and goes. We'll definitely come back and let you know if Netflix officially confirms the departure date or if there are any changes to the reported April 17, 2026, removal. So, stay tuned to Netflix Life!
