After many, many months pass following the release of a new Netflix original series, it's understandable that fans would lose hope on the show coming back for another season. The streaming service hasn't always instilled the most faith and trust in its audience when it comes to renewing its series, despite seeing a marked decline in cancellations in recent years.

But the saying "no news is good news" doesn't always prove to be true in terms of Netflix shows awaiting renewal or cancellation. The more time that passes after a show's release, the more the likelihood of a renewal decreases. There are very rare exceptions, though, and Netflix just handed another one to us on a silver platter with its most recent renewal news.

House of Guinness season 2 renewed at Netflix

Surprise! On June 12, Netflix officially renewed the historical drama series House of Guinness for season 2, nearly one year after the show first made its debut. File this under news we didn't see coming given the incredibly long gap in between the show's drop and the renewal announcement. Obviously, it's great news for fans that the series will be returning for a second run.

According to Variety's report, House of Guinness season 2 looks inclined to begin filming sometime in early 2027, which means the wait for the show's official return will be much longer. But that's par for the course given the extended period of time that was taken to greenlight the second season. It's unclear if the writing process on the new episodes has even been completed.

House of Guinness comes from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who has been keeping busy with his additions to that show's franchise. The movie Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man premiered on Netflix in March 2026 and the forthcoming sequel series with a two-season order, which will also be coming to Netflix in the future, began production in the same month.

The series takes place in the 19th century between Ireland and New York as the Guinness family begins their brewing empire in the wake of the patriarch's death, leaving his four children must fend for themselves and run the business. Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn, and Fionn O’Shea lead the main cast as the adult Guinness children Arthur, Edwin, Anne, and Benjamin.

Upon release, the series earned nearly universal acclaim from critics, holding onto a certified fresh 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers around the world also tuned into the hit series as it hit the Top 10 in many countries. Perhaps most telling of the shows intent and demand to return for season 2 was the cliffhanger that ended season 1 and left fans wanting more.

Knight told the Irish Mirror after the show's release with certainty that he would be making a second, third, and fourth season of House of Guinness, hoping to bring the story of the brewing family all the way into the 1960s. Those seasons have yet to be officially confirmed by Netflix, but now we can look forward to season 2 coming down the pipeline, likely aiming for a 2028 release.
