Netflix is bringing a fan-favorite early-2000s romantic comedy back to life with a modern twist. Emily Bader (People We Meet on Vacation) and Logan Lerman (Oh, Hi!) have reportedly been cast as the new lead pair in a 13 Going on 30 reboot movie for the streaming platform, with Jennifer Garner returning to the franchise as an executive producer.

Brett Haley (People We Meet on Vacation) will helm the film from a screenplay written by Hannah Marks (After Everything). In addition, Flora Greeson (The High Note) will provide script revisions. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum are signed on as producers for RK Films. Besides Garner and Marks, other executive producers on the film include Donna Roth, Susan Arnold, Scott Hemming, and Alyssa Altman.
The reboot reunites Bader with Haley following the massive success of their Netflix rom-com People We Meet on Vacation. Deadline reports that it learned from sources that the director and star were eager to collaborate again, and that the 13 Going on 30 reboot offered the perfect opportunity to do so. Lerman was also reportedly tapped early as Bader’s romantic counterpart.

Unfortunately, plot details for the reboot are being kept tightly under wraps. Fans are left to speculate about how the beloved story will be updated. Given how popular the original film is, I'm sure the reboot's creative team and Netflix will do everything possible to make sure the new movie doesn't end up a bust.
Released in 2004, the hit original 13 Going on 30 movie followed 13-year-old Jenna Rink, who magically woke up as her 30-year-old self after making a birthday wish. Played by Garner, adult Jenna suddenly found herself in a glamorous yet unfamiliar world, reconnecting with old friends and learning that growing up isn’t just about success. She learned that it's about love, laughter, and staying true to oneself.
Joining Garner in the original film's cast were Christa B. Allen, Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer, Andy Serkis, Kathy Baker, Lynn Collins, Ashley Benson, Brie Larson, Brittany Curran, and so many others. For the Netflix reboot of 13 Going on 30, only Bader and Lerman have been cast so far. However, both have been in their fair share of movies of the romance genre. That said, we have high hopes that they'll absolutely crush it as leads in the reboot!
Below, we shared Haley's statement to Deadline about the new reboot:
"13 Going on 30 is one of those rare, perfect films. Funny, emotional, deeply human, with unforgettable performances from Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and Judy Greer. I’m a longtime fan, so stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility. Jennifer Garner being on board as an executive producer, after playing such a big part of what made the original special, is especially meaningful.
I also couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Emily Bader after People We Meet on Vacation. She and the amazingly talented Logan Lerman are a magical pairing. I feel incredibly lucky to be trusted with something that means so much to so many people.”
Sadly, this is all that's been revealed about Netflix's upcoming version of 13 Going on 30. As more details emerge, we'll be sure to come back and share everything we've learned. But for now, you'll just have to stay tuned to Netflix Life!
