Netflix makes a major change that should delight subscribers

Is there just too many?

Netflix has many non-English titles, and that upsets many people. The weird part is that a lot of our favorite streaming comes from non-native English-speaking countries. Where would we be without Squid Game, for instance? Sad and depressed, maybe.

The fact is that artists come from anywhere and do not always speak English. Some of the best movies we will ever see are not in English, and that is not a bad thing. What should matter is the art, not the language. The film and series creators made what they knew in the language they knew, and for someone to dislike it because they have to read subtitles, well...that is just lazy.

Sometimes, subtitles work well, but most of the time, they don't. You are missing out if you watch Squid Game dubbed into English. The inflection in Korean from native Korean speakers is fantastic. It enhances the show.

Netflix makes a change for good that many subscribers still won't like

But if you do not mind subtitles and can tolerate dubbing, Netflix has some great news. As of this week, Netflix TV viewers can watch a non-English film or series in a full range of available languages. That number is currently up to 33 on Netflix, and 36 languages are available in audio form.

Before the change, only Netflix subscribers on their mobile devices or web users could access. Sure, many subscribers still use only their phone, tablet, or computer to stream things, but many use only our televisions. In other words, the change is going to help a lot of people.

Still, some people on social media are unhappy with Netflix carrying as much non-English programming as it does. Another odd part is why there is so much pushback on this. Netflix has a global brand and does not only service customers who speak English.

Are people in Germany or Spain discussing how frustrating it is that there is so much English-language programming on Netflix? Unlikely. It is simply nice to have the ability to stream so many great things on Netflix, no matter the language. And it is almost always better to listen to a series or movie in its native tongue.
