Netflix just revealed the Outer Banks season 5 news fans were dying to hear

The Outer Banks season 5 update we all have been waiting for and knew was coming has officially arrived.

Netflix just revealed that the cast and crew have officially wrapped production on Outer Banks season 5, the final season of the original series. It will be released sometime in 2026.

The official X (formerly Twitter) account posted a picture with the Outer Banks season 5 stars , Jonathan Daviss, Drew Starkey, Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Carlacia Grant, and Madison Bailey, with the caption: "we’re bringing it on home one final time 🤙 production on OBX season 5 has officially wrapped!"

I'm not crying; you're crying.

This is a huge moment for the series, obviously. We knew production was officially winding down, but I don't know if I was ready for the wrap tweet just yet. I'm sure that we'll see all the cast reactions on social media soon!

Production on Outer Banks season 5 was supposed to get started last spring, but it was pushed back a bit. Finally, things got started in June 2025 and production continued until mid-December. The cast and crew officially wrapped in Croatia, the big international destination the Pogues are heading to in the final season, at the end of November or in early December. Then, the cast returned to Charleston, South Carolina, to film the last few scenes.

Outer Banks season 5 is coming to Netflix in 2026

While it's so awesome that production on the final season has officially wrapped, it's going to be a while until Outer Banks season 5 actually hits Netflix.

Earlier this year, Netflix revealed that Outer Banks season 5 will be released in 2026. We still don't know the official release date for the final season yet.

I was thinking we would probably have to wait until late summer or fall before Outer Banks season 5 hits Netflix, but I do think it could be a lot earlier than with production actually wrapping on time. If the season was delayed, we could have been in for a longer wait than anticipated.

With production wrapping in December 2025, we could see Outer Banks season 5 as early as the end of April 2026. It's more likely that the final season premieres somewhere between May and July, but I don't think we'll have to wait until August-October. It's probably not going to be a two-year wait between seasons.

We also don't know if Outer Banks season 5 will be split into two parts like the fourth season. Personally, I hope it doesn't go that route, but the split release model appears to be working better for some shows than others.
