While Netflix's original shows and movies are great and enjoyable to watch, the streaming giant also has a knack for acquiring licensed content that's just too good to ignore. Honestly, there’s something special about scrolling through your account and stumbling upon a title that makes you stop mid-scroll and go, “Wait… that’s here?!”

Maybe it’s a movie you loved as a kid, a blockbuster you somehow missed in theaters, or a fan-favorite series that’s been sitting on your mental watchlist for years. Whatever it is, it hits differently when it’s suddenly there, ready to stream at the click of a button. This February, Netflix is set to give subscribers exactly that kind of thrill with the release of a high-profile live-action remake.

Seriously, we're not joking around. The live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie from 2025 is really scheduled to be released on Netflix in February 2026. The exact release date is Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026. While the streaming giant hasn't made a big announcement about the release date, it has shared this exciting information via its app.

Under the "New & Hot" tab on the Netflix app, you can see the movie listed with the Feb. 10 date, giving subscribers an early heads-up that this popular live-action adventure is almost here. It's currently unknown what time the film will drop, but there's a possibility that it will come out at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET on its release date. This is the usual time Netflix releases new movies and shows on its platform. But again, this is just speculation for now. The only thing we know for certain is that the film is hitting Netflix on Feb. 10.

How to Train Your Dragon is a fantasy adventure film. It's a live-action remake of the 2010 animated movie, which itself is based on the 2003 book of the same name by Cressida Cowell. That animated film is also part of an animated trilogy that consists of How to Train Your Dragon 2 and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Dean DeBlois, who co-wrote and directed the original animated films, is involved in bringing this live-action version to life by writing the script and directing.

The plot follows the familiar story of Hiccup, a young and inventive Viking who struggles to find his place in the dragon-fearing village of Berk. When he unexpectedly befriends a rare and powerful dragon named Toothless, Hiccup discovers that not all dragons are dangerous, and the two form a bond that will change both their worlds forever.

Mason Thames takes on the leading role of Hiccup. Joining him in the cast are Nico Parker, Gabriel Howell, Julian Dennison, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Peter Serafinowicz, Ruth Codd, Naomi Wirthner, Nick Frost, Gerard Butler, and many others.

Due to How to Train Your Dragon's box-office success, a live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon 2 is officially happening. It's slated for a release in theaters on June 11, 2027. This upcoming film is also expected to arrive on Netflix sometime after its theatrical release, under a deal with Universal (the movie's distributor).
