Netflix's funniest original comedy series scores slam-dunk spring release date

Even though it feels like 2026 just started, we're starting to really get into the thick of the year — at least when it comes to Netflix original series release dates. The streamer has already dropped new seasons of a number of fan-favorite shows, but there are still so many excellent new and returning show yet come in the next few months. Another hit series finally just landed a return date.

Two-time Academy Award nominee stars in Netflix's original comedy series Running Point, which first made its premiere on the streamer in February 2025 and quickly became critically acclaimed and a viewership success. Renewing the show, which comes from Mindy Kaling, for a second season was a no brainer, and after waiting over a year for the next Los Angeles Waves season, it's here!

Running Point season 2 release date set for April 2026 on Netflix

Netflix announced that Running Point season 2 premieres on Thursday, April 23, 2026, with all 10 episodes of the new season dropping at once. The comedy's spring release date brings the show back sooner than most fans might have expected at this point. Given Hudson's packed awards season schedule for Song Song Blue, the show could have dropped this summer.

But Hudson will be back on the promotional circuit for Running Point season 2 in April 2026 along with the rest of her cast members, including series newcomer Ray Romano. The Everybody Loves Raymond star joins the cast in a recurring guest star role as Coach Norm Stinson, who will surely act as the perfect comedy foil for Hudson's Isla Gordon in another season full of wild missteps.

In the second season, Isla has proven herself as a worthy leader for the Los Angeles Waves franchise after the team's success in the previous basketball season. They are beginning to bounce back in a big way after scandals involving the Gordon family and the players, but that doesn't mean that Isla's future as the president will be smooth sailing, especially not with her brother trying to take her down.

The first season ended with Cam (Justin Theroux) revealed to be the one trying to tarnish Isla and reclaim his place as the Waves president. Apparently, his plans continue in season 2 without Isla becoming privy to his scheming. But if there's one thing Isla can do, it's zig when others expect her to zag, think outside the box, and write her own rules that take her to the top.

Running Point season 2 also stars Drew Tarver, Brenda Song,Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandeman, and Uche Agada in the main cast with Hudson and Theroux. Meanwhile, the recurring cast includes lots of new and familiar faces to the series: Max Greenfield, Jay Ellis, Roberto Sanchez, Jon Glaser, Scott Evans, Rob Huebel, Marissa Reyes, Blake Anderson, Ken Marino, Tommy Dewey, Richa Moorjani, Aliyah Turner, and Jake Picking.

Without question, Running Point is Netflix's funniest current original comedy series and helped usher in a new era of comedy for the streamer. The series is in elite territory with fellow Netflix comedies Nobody Wants This, A Man on the Inside, and The Four Seasons and definitely deserves to be recognized for awards, most especially Hudson's top-notch performance.
