Netflix's forgotten Christmas hit is making a surprise return this season

Netflix has been making hit Christmas movies and shows for years, but there's one show that stands out above the rest. It's super underrated, too! I'd argue it's the best Christmas show you haven't watched.

Of course, I'm referring to Home for Christmas, also known as Hjem til jul, and the surprise third season is hitting Netflix very soon.

Netflix just confirmed Home for Christmas season 3 will be released on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025. This is amazing news for fans of the series because it's literally been five years between seasons of Per-Olav Sørensen's series!

I've been watching the Norwegian Netflix original series since it premiered on Netflix in 2019. Season 2 was a big hit in 2020, but then we had such a long gap between seasons. I wondered if we'd ever see the show again, but thankfully, our Christmas wishes have been heard. We get to see what Johanne (Ida Elise Broch) has been up to in the last half-decade.

Netflix shared the synopsis for Home for Christmas season 3, as well:

"Johanne is now 35. Months have passed since her breakup with Jonas. She doesn’t have a boyfriend but keeps herself busy to avoid feeling lonely. She helps her siblings, takes care of her lonely father, and has taken on a new leadership position at work. As she throws herself back into the dating scene, she starts to realize it’s not quite the same as it used to be. Or is it Johanne who has changed? The breakup with Jonas was tough, and bubbling beneath the surface lies the big question: Will she dare to love again?"

If you haven't seen Home for Christmas on Netflix yet, I highly recommend you watch this Norwegian series as soon as you can and catch up before the third season premieres on Dec. 12. It's such a good, heartwarming, funny, and dramatic journey. Everyone loves a good love story, and this is easily the best Christmas love story Netflix has to offer. There's something so magical about this series.

And, that's not a slight against Netflix's other Christmas shows and movies. Dash & Lily was great! Klaus, The Christmas Chronicles, and Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey were also incredible. And yet, Home for Christmas is better than them all.

Along with Broch, Netflix confirmed these cast members will star in season 3: Dennis Storhøi, Anette Hoff, Helga Guren, Hege Schøyen, Christian Ruud Kallum, and more.

Like the first two seasons, Home for Christmas season 3 will also consist of six episodes.
