Netflix drops first look at Heartstopper movie

The final of Heartstopper, a fantastic Netflix series that revolves around two characters, Nick and Charlie, as they come of age in the UK while having an ever-growing romantic relationship. School is challenging, life can be difficult, but falling in love is ever harder at times.

The series will become a movie to close the story out, but will we get the same depth as we have from the three seasons of the show? Let's hope. Otherwise, fans will probably be asking for more.

The story is based on the webcomic and graphic novel by author Alice Oseman. Oseman also wrote the series.

Heartstopper gets first-look photo as production confirmed to have begun

When we left off in season 3, which aired on Netflix in 2024, Nick and Charlie had reached a new level in their relationship, but the future was still unknown. Nick is heading off to college while Charlie still has to finish his studies. Will the long distance destroy what they have?

We don't yet have the source material to know for sure. The film will be based on Oseman's novella, Nick and Charlie, which was released in 2020, but also on a yet-to-be-released graphic novel. Oseman is hoping the graphic novel comes out before the film, and if that happens, viewers will already know how Heartstopper will finish.

No timetable has been set for the release date of the finale, but the guess is that will happen in 2026. We do know, based on a Netflix tweet this weekend, that the movie is currently in production. One step closer to making Netflix subscribers happy.

The film is being directed by Wash Westmoreland, who previously co-directed 2014's Still Alice, starring Julianne Moore, and was the sole director on 2018's Colette, which featured Keira Knightley. Westmoreland also co-wrote those films, but Oseman will be the sole scribe for the untitled Heartstopper film.

To be clear, Netflix has only announced that Connor and Locke are certain to return. The others were part of the regular cast of the series, so they should be safe bets to return.
