It is a good time of the month to be a Netflix subscriber. New movies and series arrive and few leave. The worst comes at the beginning and the end of each month, of course. The middle of the month? Not so much.
This week is easy, unless you are a parent. You might have some unhappy kiddos because there are several animated series leaving your favorite streamer that your child might have come to love. They will need to find something else. That isn't being harsh; it's true.
An Inspector Gadget series? Gone. Batman? It's out too, Richie Rich? See ya! Heck, even a series called White Gold is gone, but we don't know if that is a children's show. (Just checked. It appears to be something about double glazing. Like the show, we don't know what that is.)
What is leaving Netflix the week of May 17 through 23?
There is a film you will want to catch before it's gone. A Simple Favour (spelled the British way, even though it stars many American actors and takes place in Connecticut) stars Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, and Henry Golding. Those actors alone make the dark comedy worth viewing.
In more serious and extremely well-made fare, The Last Days also leaves on the same day as A Simple Favour. The documentary, produced by Steven Spielberg, follows the narrative of five Hungarian Jews who survived the Holocaust. It is worth watching, no matter what age you are. If we don't learn from the past, we are doomed to repeat it.
Next week will be fine, too. Netflix will drop about the same number of series and movies. The week after that will be more challenging, though.
