Netflix is adding just 11 new shows for the first week of June. That may seem like a light schedule, but that's coming on the heels of a massive 30 new titles on the first of the month. It's never advertised itself as the home of the classics. The Criterion Channel, it ain't. But they're taking a small step toward resolving that by adding six of Alfred Hitchcock's classic films to kick off the month.

Okay, to be honest, they're adding five of his classics and a spare. We'll get to those in a bit. You can also catch some modern classics influenced by the Master of Suspense. Don't worry, fam, there's plenty of lighter fare arriving on the first as well. After all, movies about murder, kidnapping, and the end of the world aren't the best for the kiddies.

And all that arrives before the regular slate for the week. You'll get no less than five new seasons of returning Netflix hits. Oh, and there's the newest creation from Tyler Perry starring powerhouse Taraji P. Henson. Add another great thriller series from Korea, a hot Italian crime drama, and a documentary series featuring Shaquille O'Neal, and Netflix has something for everyone this week.

Netflix kicks off with a spectacular slate on June 1st

I'm usually more excited about the titles that arrive throughout the week than the slew of new arrivals that show up on the first day of the month. That's not the case for June, though. As I mentioned at the start, six films by Alfred Hitchcock debut today. Psycho has already been available on your favorite streamer, so this just gives you six more examples of a master at his craft. Okay, not Family Plot, but even it's entertaining.

As for the rest, you'll have plenty of comedies, animated hits, even a trio of Pokémon movies. There's science fiction, action, and drama for Mom and Dad, too. Your challenge: watch all the new arrivals before the end of the week. You can do it; that leaves you about 110 hours to do all those boring things, like work, eat, and sleep.

After that massive launch, you'll find the Italian crime drama Sara - Woman in the Shadows debuting on Tuesday. A retired intelligence officer investigates the death of her son in the Spanish series over six episodes. Looks like another hit for Netflix. I'll say this much: I'll be watching this one with subtitles.

Wednesday brings us the third seasons of both the Brazilian action series Criminal Code and the Colombian romantic drama Eva Lasting. We also get to follow NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal as he works to revive the fortunes of sportswera company Reebok. No word if he dons his old Steel costume, but one can hope.

Three more series return on Thursday. The Swedish crime drama Barracuda Queens and the comedy series Tires both come back for their second seasons. The wildly popular Ginny & Georgia returns with its third season of angst and dark comedy. Will Ginny ever get her mom to just, you know, chill? Or at least try to be normal? Based on the trailer... you already know.

Friday hits with four shows, leading with the French action film K.O. A former MMA fighter tries to redeem himself after killing a man in a bout. As it stars accomplished MMA star Cyril Gane, at least the fight scenes should be good.

Things stay heavy with the Korean crime thriller Mercy For None. The eight-episode series follows a former crime boss who returns to the life to avenge his brother's death. Man, I hate when that happens, don't you?

The Australian drama series The Survivors follows a - you guessed it - survivor of a catastrophic storm that killed several people in his hometown. 15 years later, he returns, only to find more tragedy. And finally, we get Tyler Perry's Straw. A single mother, played by the great Taraji P. Henson, is pushed over the edge in the course of one very bad day. You might say she's reached her last...
