Netflix just added one of the best action movies of the decade

Mayhem! Carnage! Revenge! Just not inthe U.S., not yet, anyway.

Netflix has a sneaky habit of adding some excellent flicks with no advance notice. Sometimes they might not be the most exciting or interesting movies. This is not the case with their latest addition to the action genre.

I'll let you know right now that if you loved Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, you must watch this movie today. This isn't in Tarantino's style. There isn't a lot of snappy dialogue, and certainly no hip 70s soundtrack. It does have a lot of, in the words of your favorite streamer's advisory language, "strong bloody violence, gore, and language."

Think of Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi, add a bit of Django Unchained, a healthy dose of John Wick, set it in WWII, and you've got one of the decade's best action movies. The latter two films are on Netflix, and John Wick 4, so you might as well enjoy a vengeance-filled weekend. Sisu might be the best of them all.

Sisu brings the heat to the bad guys on Netflix

Here's the bad news, Netflix fam. If you live in the U.S., like most of our readers, you're out of luck. You'll need to rent or purchase this on another service or do some traveling to see this on Netflix. Whether you do the traveling or your connection does it, that's your choice.

The weather's pretty good right now in Canada, the U.K., Ireland, and Germany, among other locations. Just sayin'. Don't worry, there are plenty of other shows coming this week.

Now, social media being what it is these days, a lot of sites shy away from using the term "Nazi" in descriptions or headlines. Rest assured, removing members of the National Socialist German Workers' Party from the planet is the driving force of this movie.

Or as Lieutenant Aldo Raine said in Inglorious Basterds, “You probably heard we ain’t in the prisoner-takin’ business; we’re in the killin’ Nazi business. And cousin, business is a-boomin'." Same here, Lieutenant.

The title itself isn't the character's name, but it describes and defines him. The Finnish term is defined as determination, strength of will, and sustained courage. Those are all good qualities if you're facing a bunch of ruthless Nazis who have stolen the gold you mined, attacked your village, and kidnapped several women. Even worse for the Nazis: former soldier and full-time badass Aatami Korpi has a dog.

Directed with flair and an eye for mayhem by Jalmari Helander, Sisu doesn't shy away from that "strong bloody violence". Instead, it revels in it. It may have been 80 years since the Nazis got what was coming to them, but there is still nothing quite as satisfying as seeing the ultimate screen villains face justice. Bloody, gory, and highly over-the-top justice to be sure.

Need more gore? Catch one of these flicks before they disappear this month.

Helander's debut film, Rare Exports, deserves your attention as well. You'll have to find it on some other platform, sorry. It's worth it, though. Who doesn't want to see villagers battle the murderous being known as Santa Claus? That makes the premise of Sisu pretty tame in comparison. It scored 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but this latest action thriller has that beat, with a score of 94 percent fresh.

Sisu may be over-the-top, but it functions as a perfect action film within its world, much like Aatami functions as an ideal Nazi-killing machine. As for the kidnapping victims, they prove to be far more than damsels in distress. Huzzah for that. Great news: Sisu 2 is on its way. For now, enjoy the carnage below. Warning: There is some harsh language involved. It's only available in English or French. That makes me sad, as I was looking forward to learning a few harsh words in Finnish.
