If you're a fan of Netflix movies and have been waiting for updates on the latest sequels from the streamer, there's an especially exciting update to finally share about one of the streamer's most beloved franchises. We're not talking about The Old Guard, Enola Holmes, Fear Street, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, or even Murder Mystery. It's Chris Hemsworth's action-packed Extraction.

After becoming a massive hit upon its April 2020 release, Extraction's viewership success and popularity among fans helped launch a franchise. Hemsworth returned for the sequel, Extraction 2, in June 2023, and another sequel, a spinoff film, and a spinoff series have all been in the works. Thankfully, there's at long last a major update to share about Extraction 3.

Extraction 3 set to begin filming in summer 2026

As reported by Deadline in April 2026, Extraction 3 took a huge step forward as Chris Hemsworth officially signed back on to star. In addition, Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani closed deals to reprise their roles, and director Sam Hargrave completes to round up with his own return in the director's chair. While Joe Russo wrote the first two movies, David Weil pens the latest sequel.

But that's not even the most exciting news! The most important part of the latest report has to do with when cameras will begin rolling. While an official start date hasn't been shared quite yet, Deadline suggests that production will kick off sometime in summer 2026. A location hasn't been shared, but Tyler Rake will seemingly be back in action this summer — on set at least!

Extraction 3 just took a big step forward, but the plot of the new sequel in the franchise is being closely guarded before cameras start rolling. Obviously, we can expect Tyler Rake to be taking on a new mission with his partner Nik Khan and Elba's character Alcott, who assigns them their next adventure at the end of the first sequel.

Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, Ari Costa, Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Grayson, Sam Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin, most of whom worked on Extraction 2, are all back on board to produce the latest installment, bringing the full team back together. Before even learning what the movie is about, it should be a positive sign to fans that we're in good hands once again.

Because Extraction 3 will begin filming this summer, it's not expected for the movie to make its global streaming premiere on Netflix until at least next summer. Until production actually begins, which could still be shifted based on schedules, we will have a better idea of when the movie could premiere. If the movie starts shooting in the summer as planned, a release in summer 2027 could be on the docket. That's still a long time away.

But if you're in need of Chris Hemsworth on your screen before Extraction 3, the actor has a few movies heading our way. Following the recent release of Crime 101 earlier this year, he will also be seen as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday this December. He's also appearing in Stuntnuts: The Movie, Subversion, and Kockroach. There's plenty to hold us over until Tyler Rake's return!
