Netflix is about to give a critically acclaimed box office bomb a second life

A romantic comedy film from 2022 that wowed critics and (most) viewers but failed to pull in big box office returns will get a second chance on Netflix in June 2026.

Sometimes when a movie struggles to make an impact at the box office, that doesn't mean it's the end of the film's life. These days, there are so many more ways for movies to find an audience and be seen, even if they are critically panned or marked as "box office bombs." Either way, Netflix has the power to give movies a second chance to connect with viewers.

That's exactly what's going to happen in June 2026 with a particularly buzzy romantic comedy from 2022 that, while acclaimed by most critics, didn't have the kind of box office reach it had aimed for. No matter the reason the movie didn't work the first time around, there's no doubt that Billy Eichner's rom-com Bros will catch a second wind when it drops on Netflix.

Bros begins streaming on Netflix in June 2026

One of the many exciting new additions coming to Netflix very soon, Bros makes its Netflix debut on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Before coming to Netflix, the movie has been available to stream on Peacock and other various streaming services with an add-on. The movie will depart Peacock in order to make its Netflix debut, which will by far be its biggest streaming presence since its release.

Bros, which stars and is co-written by Eichner, was released amid much fanfare in September 2022. From director and co-writer Nicholas Stoller and producer Judd Apatow, Bros was the first major starring film role for Eichner and was a high-profile, big-screen push for an adult queer romantic comedy. While it was a win for representation, its performance was ultimately dashed.

Eichner stars in Bros as a podcast host named Bobby who meets Aaron Shepard (Luke Macfarlane), a lawyer with similarly hesitant ideas about commitment and relationships. However, the more Bobby and Aaron get to know each other, the more they become less like "bros" and more like boyfriends. The path to admitting their feelings isn't easy, but it's definitely funny, charming, and unexpected.

Despite its unfortunate box office returns, which have been heavily debated and blamed on everything from an unwilling audience to alienating marketing, Bros was certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with an 88% score. Clearly, that means this is a good romantic comedy and commerical performance shouldn't be factored into its quality, a lesson we should have already learned.

Seriously, Bros might be one of the most unique modern romantic comedies you'll watch. While it shares some DNA with other Apatow comedies like This Is 40 and Trainwreck, it's completely of Eichner's voice and point of view. If you love his comedy in Billy on the Street, Parks and Recreation, and Difficult People, you will thoroughly enjoy the actor as a rom-com lead.

Bros will be one of the many romantic comedies being added to Netflix in June 2026, also including titles like Made of Honor, My Best Friend's Wedding, The Wedding Planner, and more. And fellow Apatow film Funny People also drops on Netflix on June 16. Add Bros to your watch list for a summer rom-com marathon, no matter if it's your first watch or a long-awaited rewatch!
