Man on Fire season 2 just got a frustrating update

Man on Fire fans have been patiently waiting for news about a potential second season. Unfortunately, that wait is going to continue a little longer.

Man on Fire season 2 still hasn't gotten the green light at Netflix, according to a recent report from Deadline. I'm sure that's super frustrating news for fans of the series.

The Netflix original series is based on A.J. Quinnell's book of the same name. It premiered on Netflix on April 30, and it was easily the biggest show of the spring. The series tells the story of John Creasy, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, a mercenary who finds himself in a tough spot and has to fight his way out.

This news is definitely quite surprising to me for a number of reasons, including how good the show was, how much potential it has, and ratings. It also sets up season 2 pretty clearly, so there's more to this story.

Man on Fire is one of the biggest Netflix shows of 2026

First of all, Man on Fire had the biggest debut on Netflix this spring. It's officially the eighth-biggest show of the year so far, and it racked up more than 40 million views in its first two-ish months on Netflix.

The weirdest part of all is just how many Netflix shows have already been renewed that were less popular than Man on Fire. The Night Agent, which ranks No. 10 on the list with 36 million views in the first half of 2026, was renewed for a fourth and final season.

Man on Fire is only one spot behind One Piece season 2 on the list of the most popular Netflix shows of 2026 so far, but One Piece season 2 had almost two months longer to rack up views than Man on Fire. One Piece season 3 has already been ordered at Netflix.

Beyond that, the show is just good. It has a great story and an even better cast. Abdul-Mateen II is a major star, and he's only going to get bigger. We don't see action sequences like this in many Netflix shows.

Now, I know action shows are always hit or miss on Netflix. We've seen shows like The Night Agent drop off in its second and third seasons, so it's a little bit riskier than some Netflix renewals lately. On top of that Abdul-Mateen II is a big star, and it's possible that scheduling could become an issue if he has other big projects in the works. Still, Netflix should be able to find a way to get a deal done and move forward.

There's still time for Man on Fire season 2 to be ordered at Netflix

With all that said, there's still time for Man on Fire to be renewed for season 2. The good news is that Man on Fire has not been canceled yet. It obviously shows there is at least some interest on Netflix's part to keep this series going.

The Boroughs, which was supposed to be one of the biggest shows of the year, was canceled rather quickly following its premiere on May 21. So, that's the bright side. Man on Fire season 2 is still possible.

Unfortunately, the longer we go without a renewal, the chances of a second season get slimmer and slimmer.

If I had to make a prediction, I would guess that Man on Fire season 2 will happen on Netflix. There's no reason for Netflix to give up on this show right now. It might not get better than the 40 million views we saw for the first season, but there's still a lot to like about this series.
