Leanne star confirms season 2 release window after filming officially wraps

If there's one thing we're all in need of this year, it's some laughs. Thankfully, the second season of Netflix's hit sitcom Leanne is on the way! Following the success of the show's launch last summer, the streaming service quickly renewed the show for season 2, which began filming earlier this year. There's finally some exciting news to share with fans about when the laughs will roll in.

As revealed on social media by a number of cast and crew members, Leanne season 2 officially wrapped filming in April 2026. Kristen Johnston shared the long awaited news with fans on Instagram, posting a few behind-the-scenes peeks from the set without giving anything away. However, she did give one detail away: When to expect season 2 to premiere!

Leanne season 2 teased for summer 2026 release on Netflix

In Johnston's post announcing Leanne season 2's wrap, she wrote in the caption, "That’s a wrap on season 2 of Leanne! Can’t wait for you guys to see the sweet insanity we’ve cooked up for you. I really think you’re gonna love it. An escape we all need." But the most intriguing part of her caption came right at the end when she dropped one major tease: "Coming this summer on Netflix!"

While Netflix hasn't announced the Leanne season 2 release date or even teased a release window, the streamer previously shared that the sitcom would make its return sometime in 2026. Johnston's post is the first confirmation that Leanne will return this summer with new episodes, ensuring that the sitcom won't be missing an annual release after debuting in July 2025.

Leanne first premiered on July 31, 2025 with its full 16-episode first season dropping all at once. Like the release date not being concrete just yet, Netflix also hasn't solidified the episode count for the second season, though we're hopeful that another 16 episodes will be hitting our watch list this summer. No matter how many episodes, the summer release date is totally doable.

Even though filming wrapped in April, it's entirely possible for Leanne season 2 to complete post-production and finish up in time for a debut this summer. We can hope for a release date that brings the show back earlier than one year from the season 1 drop, like sometime earlier in July, but late July 2026 or even sometime in August could be more likely for the season 2 release date.

Leanne season 2 will pick up following the events of the season 1 finale, which found Bill (Ryan Stiles) having a panic attack and the family welcoming a new member, Leanne's first granddaughter. Along with Morgan, Johnston, and Stiles, the rest of the main cast is expected to be back, including Celia Weston, Blake Clark, Graham Rogers, and Hannah Pilkes.
