Add Josh Duhamel to the list of individuals who weren't exactly thrilled with Netflix’s decision to cancel Ransom Canyon and felt surprised by the show’s cancellation.
Duhamel has finally broken his silence over the cancellation of Ransom Canyon, and he didn’t mince words in making it clear that he wasn’t happy with Netflix’s decision. While Duhamel knows this is a business and tough decisions must be made, he’s admitted to being angry with Netflix and questioned their decision to cancel a show that seemed to be performing well.
“I was a little upset with Netflix for not giving the audience another season, because people really did love the show, but that’s the business,” he told Us Weekly.
While he knows he has to move on, he doubled down on feeling bad for the fans who are invested in the series and are the ones who lose the most when a show is canceled.
“At the same time, I get it. They have their reasons for why things stay and why things go. I don’t always understand those reasons, but it’s not my job to question,” he continued. “I’ve just gotta move on. I just feel bad for the fans who are really invested in it, and that’s it, unfortunately.”
Fans are definitely not happy with Netflix’s decision to cancel Ransom Canyon after just two seasons, as it felt as though the show had only just begun to hit its stride. Thankfully, season 2 did not end with any major cliffhangers but things weren’t exactly tied up nice and neat with a bow. While season 2 wasn’t exactly a ratings juggernaut, the season did well enough that season 3 seemed like a likely option for Netflix.
Unfortunately, Netflix has been making a lot of tough decisions in recent months, which has led to the untimely ends of many beloved series. This includes long-running drama Sweet Magnolias, which also received its walking papers from Netflix. That one hit hard for fans, as there was a lot of crossover between the Ransom Canyon and Sweet Magnolias audiences, so many fans lost two beloved shows in one fell swoop.
Considering how passionate its leads were about the show continuing and the reported in-house support from Netflix, it still is hard to wrap our heads around why Netflix opted not to renew Ransom Canyon. The show is much cheaper to produce than several big-budget genre offerings and felt like a show that had potential to run for several more seasons.
Netflix has never been the most forthcoming with its cancellation decisions, so we’ll likely never get a clear answer for why Ransom Canyon season 3 didn’t happen. What we do know is that the show has joined an always-growing list of Netflix shows gone too soon.
Thankfully, we can enjoy re-watching the show's two seasons via Netflix, and there are other shows to help fill the void, including Virgin River, which is a perfect selection for fans of Ransom Canyon.
