This post contains spoilers from Emily in Paris season 5 from this point forward.
Emily in Paris season 5 made its premiere on Netflix with 10 brand-new episodes featuring jaw-dropping moments and all the swoon-worthy romance we've come to expect from the hit rom-com series. In the new season, Emily works through the challenges that come with a new city, a new job, and a new relationship, all while still feeling the pangs of her life back in Paris.
Obviously, one of those pangs is none other than Gabriel, the hot chef she fell for the second she landed in Paris back in season 1. Last season, Emily and Gabriel finally made an attempt at a real relationship, but it ended as quickly as it started. By the end of season 4, Emily was happily with Marcello in Rome, and Gabriel had realized that he wanted to win Emily back.
Does Gabriel follow through with his plan? Well, his storyline in Emily in Paris season 5 isn't a very predictable one and takes turns in certain episodes that will have fans wondering if the series has written Lucas Bravo out of the show. But what really happens with Gabriel in season 5, and what's in store for him and Emily in the future? Let's unpack the unexpected twists!

No, Gabriel isn't leaving Emily in Paris
While the series seemed to be writing out Gabriel, it doesn't appear that Lucas Bravo will be leaving the show after season 5. The actor made some comments after last season came out that alluded to the fact that he might be considering exiting Emily in Paris, but he was confirmed to be back for season 5 as a series regular. However, he was in a limited number of episodes.
Since Emily spends so much time in Rome, Gabriel isn't present for every episode of season 5, but he's still an important part of the show even if he doesn't have a major storyline this time around. When Emily in Paris season 5 begins, Gabriel does show up in Rome as intended, but he realizes that Emily's happy and doesn't interrupt. Oddly enough, he leans on Sylvie.
Later on in the season, Emily scores Gabriel a gig cooking for a billionaire when he and Antoine are butting heads at the restaurant. She feels bad when Gabriel winds up resigning from the restaurant because she wanted the gig to strengthen his working relationship with Antoine. However, Gabriel accepted a position cooking for the billionaire while traveling on his yacht.

Emily and Gabriel reunite in the season 5 episode 9 when Gabriel calls her up asking to meet him at the train station with the knives he left behind. The friendly exes meet for lunch, and for the first time in a long time, Gabriel appears to have found peace and satisfaction in his career. Meanwhile, Emily thinks she's found that, too. Their parting as he gets on the train feels an awful lot like a farewell,
But as the season finale reveals, it's not the final goodbye for Gabriel. Emily and Marcello break-up once and for all and Emily returns to Paris. Sylvie text messages Gabriel sharing the updates on Emily's personal life, which gives him the idea to invite her join him in Greece during his break from work. The season ends with Gabriel smiling, looking forward to hearing back from Emily.
The ending all but suggest Emily in Paris season 6 will happen, and when Netflix formally renews the series, we should totally expect Lucas Bravo to once again return as Gabriel. After a lighter season for the character, he seems primed to play a much larger role in future seasons as the series gears up to work toward that endgame romance its been plotting toward since day one.
