March 17 is...you guessed it, St. Patrick's Day. The day when Americans celebrate their Irish heritage. Yeah, it might be an important day elsewhere in the world, but Ireland does not celebrate in the same way.
That is fine because the great island has given us a lot of acting talent for a total population of just around seven million. The great actors per capita for the Irish are likely better than nearly any other populace. That means the culture is ripe to produce excellence.
Of course, not every wonderful actor from the Irish island (we are including Northern Ireland here as part of the complete island) has a film featured on Netflix. Several do, however. In fact, the actors below have more than one film streaming on Netflix, so there is a lot to watch on St. Patrick's Day.
Four Irish actors to watch on Netflix on St. Patrick's Day
Liam Neeson
What to watch on Netflix: Schindler's List, Ice Road, Love Actually
Neeson was around a bit before he made his starring turn in the Steven Spielberg bit of iconic greatness. He has lately turned much of his career into action films. His brooding manner and fantastic voice work fit perfectly for these roles. But he is no less excellent in the rom-com of Love Actually, where he plays the stepfather and widower to a child who has just lost his mother.
Michael Fassbender
What to watch on Netflix: The Killer, Kneecap, The Snowman
Fassbender has also made his niche in action films, but they have been more slow-burn thrillers that involve international espionage. The Killer is a bit different, and it is great. He doesn't speak much, and he doesn't need to. His presence says all we need to know. He has a smaller role in Kneecap, but he is still pivotal in a movie about a rap trio that tries to save the Irish language.
Fiona Shaw
What to watch on Netflix: Killing Eve, Enola Holmes
Many might know Shaw better from her turn as Harry Potter's Aunt Petunia. But she has built a career out of playing significant roles in many projects. The series and film above simply would not be the same without her talents.
Cillian Murphy
What to watch on Netflix: A Quiet Place Part II, Peaky Blinders
Perhaps there is no actor hotter in the entertainment industry currently than Murphy. While his Oscar-winning role in Oppenheimer is not yet streaming on Netflix, the can't-miss Peaky Blinders is. Murphy plays protagonist Thomas Shelby as a moody crime lord. While the series does not take place in Ireland, early 20th-century Birmingham feels a lot like it.
