Madonna has been a music icon for 40 years. She might not have produced the vast number of hits she did in the 1980s, but she knows how to pull in her crowd. Any gigs she does are sure to be noteworthy. But a biopic of her? That appears to be difficult to make.
A feature film reportedly starring Jennifer Garner has been in the works for some time. The problem is that Garner will eventually have to look elsewhere for work, and her commitment to the project might, in essence, time out. She would seemingly make a great Madonna, but someone else might have to fill that role.
Or will they? What could occur is that Garner transitions from a feature film about Madonna to a limited series about the brilliant musical artist and trendsetter. That is because Deadline reports that the Queen of Pop will work with Stranger Things director and producer Shawn Levy on a limited series for Netflix.
Madonna, Shawn Levy and Netflix reportedly join forces
The part of her long career that will be focused on is unknown, nor is the cast, release date, or anything else. Heck, Netflix has not even officially confirmed Deadline's report. That might be because of legal and copyright concerns, and maybe your favorite streamer has already greenlit the series.
Levy and Garner are no strangers to working with Netflix, of course. Levy has directed eight episodes of Stranger Things, while also The Perfect Couple and All the Light We Cannot See. He is no stranger to creating musical projects, either. He directed Beyonce's "A Woman Like Me" music video in 2006.
Garner appeared in Ozark and invented Anna. Garner has sung before at a Save the Children’s gala and, in the movie, Yes Day. Madonna has a wonderful voice, but her success has been more about style than singing like an opera star. Garner could likely do her justice, or the pop icon would not be interested in the actress playing her in a biopic.
At least, a limited series would allow fans to have a bigger view of Madonna’s career, at least in the time frame it is covered. A feature film is more limited, of course. Let’s hope the Netflix series gets made quicker than the movie has been rumored to be taking place.
