It’s that strange, exciting time of year when everything feels new again. The beginning of the year is always a particularly overwhelming moment for Netflix, because the platform suddenly feels like it’s in overdrive, constantly refreshing its library with fresh titles, new seasons, and shiny originals that all compete for our attention at once.

And as much as we all love that endless buffet of content, it also makes it incredibly easy to scroll past something great without even realizing it. That’s exactly what almost happened here. Among the steady stream of early-year releases, Netflix has just dropped a new mystery thriller series onto the platform. However, it didn’t exactly scream “must-watch” to me at first glance. The title didn’t immediately grab me.

And for a moment, I genuinely thought about skipping it altogether. But boy, would that have been a massive mistake! I was hooked from the very first episode, and the series only got better and better as it continued to unfold. What started as a show that I put on for background noise quickly transformed into something I couldn't turn off. If you haven't checked out His & Hers on Netflix yet, you’re missing one of the most twisty, addictive thrillers to hit the platform this year.

His & Hers
(L to R) Jon Bernthal as Detective Jack Harper and Tessa Thompson as Anna in Episode #101 of His & Hers | Netflix

His & Hers is the new Netflix show that you won't be able to look away from

Book lovers will recognize the show's title right away. His & Hers is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Alice Feeney, and the adaptation does a remarkable job of translating the book’s tightly wound suspense and darkly intricate plotting into a visual format that feels both cinematic and emotionally compelling.

His & Hers mainly revolves around two people. You have Anna Andrews, an Atlanta news anchor who has withdrawn from the world after a tragic incident and now lives a quiet, isolated life. The series begins with her curiosity about a shocking murder in her hometown, which slowly pulls her out of seclusion and back into a world she had tried to leave behind.

Opposite her is Detective Jack Harper, her estranged husband, who is tasked with investigating the very case that draws Anna in. Their history is complicated. It's full of unresolved tension, unspoken feelings, and the lingering impact of secrets from their past. Throughout the six-episode series, their personal and professional worlds collide in unexpected ways, creating constant tension and uncertainty.

You’re never entirely sure whether Anna is helping the investigation, hiding something, or driven by motives only she understands. Jack, meanwhile, is torn between his duty as a detective and the complicated emotions he still feels toward his wife. This interplay of trust, suspicion, and emotional baggage keeps the series gripping from start to finish.

Sure, the characters are written well. But if it weren't for the talented actors bringing them to life, the series wouldn’t have nearly the same impact. Tessa Thompson delivers a nuanced, magnetic performance as Anna, perfectly capturing the quiet intensity of someone navigating grief while being drawn into a dangerous mystery. Opposite her, Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of Jack is equally compelling, balancing the toughness and dedication of a seasoned detective with the lingering emotional complexity of a man still entangled with his past.

But besides the engaging plot and great acting, what really blew me away about His & Hers was the huge twist that completely flips the story on its head. Just when you think you’ve figured out what’s really happening, the series pulls the rug out from under you in the most satisfying way. Now, this show knows how to end off with a bang!

Overall, I really enjoyed watching His & Hers and even plan on revisiting it somewhere down the line. I'm pretty sure this twisty new Netflix show is going to remain in my mind for a long time, and I'm not complaining at all!
