Henry Cavill's underrated Guy Ritchie war comedy charges onto Netflix this month

There's nothing better than entering a weekend, or even a new week, with a Netflix watch list that's full of great new movies and shows to work your way through. Between the original series the streamer drops each week to the exciting movies and other acquired content that arrives en masse each month, we're never without something entertaining and star-studded to watch.

Currently, the Top 10 most popular movies on Netflix in the US includes original hits like Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Again?, The Whisper Man, and Turning Point: Generation 9/11 as well as other movies like Those Who Wish Me Dead, Contraband, and Shark Tale. But come next week, movie fans need to brace for impact when an underrated Henry Cavill flick makes its arrival.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare coming to Netflix

If you missed out on the movie the first time around, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare begins streaming on Netflix in the United States on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026. For the first time since the film's release in 2024, it's becoming available on Netflix in the US for the first time, and based on Cavill's success on the streamer over the years, it will no doubt be a huge hit.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare borrows its premise from the book Churchill's Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII by Damien Lewis and comes from director and co-writer Guy Ritchie. As the book's title suggests, the movie takes place during World War II and focuses on a team of "misfits" embarking a secret mission.

It's a unique perspective of the war as the film fictionalizes the part that Winston Churchill's Special Operations Executive play during Operation Postmaster. Take a closer look at the movie's official synopsis as shared by Netflix: "In World War II, the British military assembles a highly-skilled team of misfit soldiers for a covert mission behind enemy lines to sabotage Nazi U-boats."

While the film sounds like your run of the mill war movie with action sequences and bits of history folded into its story, Ritchie infuses the movie with unexpected comedy in spite of the heavier subject matter. After all, that's what he tends to do well as fans know from his movie The Gentlemen and the hit Netflix original series of the same name. If you just finished binge-watching The Gentlemen season 2, then The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is the perfect movie to watch next.

Cavill leads the cast, and there's no doubt viewers will be tuning in just for him. He's taken on huge roles like Superman and Sherlock Holmes, but Netflix viewers likely know the actor best from his role as Geralt of Rivia in the streamer's fantasy drama series The Witcher (though he was ultimately replaced by Liam Hemsworth after the show's third season).

In addition to Cavill, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare cast also features lots of familiar faces that we know and love from other movies and shows, including Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Henry Golding, Henrique Zaga, Til Schweiger, and Cary Elwes. While the movie bombed at the box office, it was generally well-received by critics and viewers with high scores on Rotten Tomatoes. All in all, fans of Henry Cavill, Guy Ritchie, and/or war movies should tune in.
