As the saying goes, all good things come to an end. We just never wanted that phrase to ever apply to the wonderfully heartwarming world Alice Oseman created with Heartstopper. But after the beloved teen romantic drama series wasn't renewed for a fourth season, Netflix opted to bring the series to a conclusion and give fans around the world closure with a wrap-up movie.
Heartstopper Forever premieres on Friday, July 17 on Netflix. While the movie hails from the United Kingdom, Netflix isn't releasing it at midnight in UK time. The movie drops at 3 a.m. ET and 12 a.m. PT, which is considerably late (or early!) for fans in the United States—though plenty of devoted fans will be watching as soon as the feature-length series finale begins streaming.

After all, Volume 6 just released earlier this month.

If you're a bit confused on what exactly Heartstopper Forever is, it's a continuation of the three-season Netflix original series and the official ending of its story. While those three seasons can stand on their own, the wrap-up movie—and it is a movie; there are no episodes—provides a definitive conclusion to Nick and Charlie's love story after its reported 1 hour and 54 minutes runtime.
Heartstopper Forever TV-MA age rating and what to expect
While the series was originally rated TV-14 for instances of sexuality, self-harm, and heightened language among other mature themes, the Children's and Family Emmy Award winner has now taken on a TV-MA rating for its series finale movie. Sex and language are the reasons provided for the mature rating this time around, and readers of Oseman's graphic novels are aware why.
In the Heartstopper graphic novels, Nick and Charlie have sex, and even though the instances of intimacy aren't especially graphic compared to other shows and movies, the series ventured into far more mature territory in season 3 as the couple explored their physical relationship. Based on the events in the books, the movie takes that one step further along with the language.
After all, as the Heartstopper Forever plot teases, Nick and Charlie have entered the phase of their lives where growing up means more than just going through puberty and learning difficult lessons. They are becoming young adults and thinking about what the future holds for university, their relationship, and beyond, and the same goes for each of their friends.
The movie is expected to cover the events featured in both Heartstopper Volume 6 and the Nick & Charlie novella, though Oseman typically switches up the narrative order a bit for the Netflix series and offers a few surprises that bring the pages of the books to beautiful life in 3D color. Watch Heartstopper Forever only on Netflix beginning Friday, July 17.
