Grown Ups 3 is happening on Netflix, and we just got the first filming update

If there's one thing Adam Sandler's going to do, it's treat the fans of his movies to a sequel, no matter how many years have gone by. Most recently, the actor brought back Happy Gilmore, his beloved character from the '90s, for Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix almost 30 years after the original became a comedy classic. Beyond his latest hit, Sandler's truly no stranger to sequels.

Thankfully, Sandler will be bringing his next long-awaited sequel to Netflix once again as he's rallied the Grown Ups gang back together for a third movie. The movie, which first hit theaters in 2010 and was followed up by its sequel in 2013, was confirmed in May 2026 to be coming back for a third entry. We might not have long to wait until it hits our watch lists according to the newest update.

Grown Ups 3 begins filming in July 2026 in Europe

As What's on Netflix reports, Grown Ups 3 will reportedly begin filming in July 2026 and is tentatively set to wrap production in October. This time around, the gang will be heading to Europe for a reunion vacation, with the filming locations teasing trips to France and Italy. In addition to filming overseas, production will also take place in Boston, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Sandler co-write the script with Tim Herlihy and the film will be directed by Kyle Newacheck, who also collaborated with Sandler as the director of Happy Gilmore 2. Sandler and Herlihy also executive produce alongside Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, Kevin Grady, and Judit Maull, which reassembles a lot of the same team that brought the first two movies and frequently work with Sandler.

The full cast of Grown Ups 3 hasn't been confirmed just yet, but Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider are expected to reprise their leading roles for the second sequel. Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, and Salma Hayek also appeared in the first two movies as the main characters' significant others and could be returning for the new movie, too.

Both of the movies featured extensive supporting casts with lots of familiar faces in guest and cameo roles. There's no telling which of these characters could be pulled back in to make even the smallest appearance in the third movie. We should also expect a few new characters played by big stars to possibly join the cast. Sandler has no shortage of famous friends to call upon.

Netflix hasn't shared the official plot synopsis of Grown Ups 3, the movie is rumored to find the quintet of long-time friends coming together to spread a friend's ashes in Europe. Like the first two movies, the busy husbands and fathers are determined to prove they can still have fun. Over a decade has gone by since the first sequel, which means a lot has probably changed in that time.

Knowing that Grown Ups 3 starts production this summer and wraps shortly before the end of the year counts out a release in 2026, though we weren't expecting Netflix to rush the movie out. However, there's a great chance that one year later, the surely hilarious movie will be making us laugh sometime during the summer of 2027. As cameras begin rolling, we'll learn more from Netflix.
