Enola Holmes fans get great (yet slight) news about the future of franchise

Here is the good news. Millie Bobby Brown will return as Enola Holmes in a third installment of the franchise based on the Sherlock Holmes spinoff books written by Nancy Springer. The original film came out in 2020, and a sequel came out in 2022, but there could be a bit of a wait before Enola Holmes 3.

In a recent interview with Collider, Brown revealed that filming for number three will begin soon, but that only means fans should not expect a new film before 2026 at the earliest. At least we know one is on the way (sort of), but we just do not know when it will arrive. As far as the rest of the cast, though? Who knows.

Brown was asked about Henry Cavill returning as Sherlock, but the actress only said fans will need to "wait and see." We also do not know yet whether Helena Bonham Carter will come back as Eudoria Holmes or if Himesh Patel will return as Dr. Watson. He only appeared in the second installment, so how he fits, if at all, into installment three remains to be seen.

Another thing we think we know is that the third Enola Holmes will turn much darker. This follows a trend set by the Harry Potter films in that, at first, the movies were more family-friendly with a slight bit of danger, but by the end of the franchise, the movies were closer to horror than kid's fare. That is how they should have been.

For Brown and Enola Holmes, the ascension to something darker is only fitting. The actress is still only 21 years old (though we have been watching her work for nearly a decade), so when the first movie was made, she was just 16. Sure, things could have been scarier for a film featuring a late-teen, but someone in her early 20s is able to bring real fear.

In other words, while we do not know if key actors such as Cavill, Bonham Carter, or Patel will return, we know that Brown is going to bring some harsher tones to Enola Holmes 3. Sounds fun! Now, we just have to wait at least a year to see the new project.
