Do Mindy and Nico break up in Emily in Paris season 5? (It's complicated)

Whenever a new season of Emily in Paris premieres on Netflix you can also expect plenty of romantic twists and turned for not only Emily but her best friend Mindy (Ashley Park). That's exactly what's in store for Emily in Paris season 5, which arrived on Dec. 18 with 10 brand-new episodes and lots of unexpected developments in the love lives of all our favorite characters.

For the first time, Mindy's relationship might be more complicated than Emily's especially since in Emily in Paris season 5, she keeps a rather massive secret from her best friend. Before diving into that plot twist, let's remember that when we last left Mindy in season 4, she was picking herself back up after breaking up with her boyfriend Nicolas (Paul Forman).

Mindy joined Emily in Rome post-break and wrote one heck of a breakup song that went viral online and scored her a new position as a judge on a singing competition series in China. As the first episode of season 5 reveals, Mindy don't go through with the TV job and finds herself in close quarters with a friend's ex and possibly even back with Nico. Do they break up... again?

Does Mindy end up with Alfie or Nico in Emily in Paris season 5?

The trajectory of Mindy's personal relationships couldn't be more complicated in Emily in Paris season 5. She begins the season single, and without Emily to hang out with in Paris, she leans on Gabriel and Alfie to spend time with. Before long sparks begin to fly between Mindy and Alfie, leading to the pair to secretly hook up multiple times behind Emily's back.

Mindy and Alfie try to keep sleeping together in the past and call it a vacation fling while in Rome, but there's definitely something more between them than just sex. Unfortunately, Emily finds out about their secret from Geneviève and Julien, and understandably, she's hurt that her best friend slept with one of her exes and (most importantly) lied to her about it.

Thankfully, Mindy and Emily's fight is short-lived and officially puts an end to whatever Mindy and Alfie had going on, which paves the way for Nicolas to come back into Mindy's life. She finally unblocks his number and realizes how much he had been attempting to contact her. He left JVMA to strike out on his own, a major sign of accountability and growth that wins Mindy over.

The couple gets back together and appears strong than ever. During a double date boat ride with Emily and Marcello, Nico proposes to Mindy and she accepts. (Awkwardly, Emily believed Marcello was proposing to her, but that wasn't the case.) Mindy and Nicolas are happily engaged, but she's soon confronted with the reality of her feelings for Alfie back in Paris.

Emily and Mindy bump into Alfie in Paris and share the exciting news about the engagement, but he's not excited. He tells her flat-out that she's making a mistake. Even though she brushes if off, Emily presses to see if Mindy still has feelings for Alfie. She doesn't even have to respond. She does! Mindy ends season 5 engaged to Nico but still down bad for Alfie. She has a decision to make!
