Dept. Q season 2: Rumors, guesses, and cast needs

Is it worthy?

If you haven't yet seen the Scotland-set British-made murder mystery series, Dept. Q, you should. The cast is ridiculously good, and the plot will keep you interested. While the series might not be a global No. 1 for Netflix, it is a top-10 show and worthy of more.

Will it get it? Netflix is under no pressure to commit. Plus, the Matthew Goode-led (he plays Carl Morck) series has only been out for a couple of weeks. The streaming giant does not usually make important decisions until it realizes the series has legs or is an immediately massive hit.

Dept. Q has gotten fantastic reviews, generally speaking, and solid numbers, but not yet the kind of views that leave Netflix with no doubts about pouring money into more seasons. Fans want there to be more, of course, but that is usually the case.

Dept. Q is great and the cast wants more

As it turns out, with Netflix's new series, the cast wants more, too. Sure, there is a guaranteed paycheck if Netflix renews the series, and that is always great, but the cast seemingly gets along well, too.

According to Deadline, Goode said, "I’d wanted to work with Shirley Henderson—‘Shenderson’—for years. And Kelly McDonald, and then this fairly relatively new actress, Leah Byrne, who is a revelation in this show...Well, it’s writing and talent, where they meet, I suppose. I love them all. That’s why we’re desperate to do a second season."

Cloe Pirrie (who plays Merritt Lingard) echoed Goode, telling Cosmo, "I think (a second season) would be really great for the cast...And great for Scotland to have a show like this run again. It’s definitely something we would all want."

The opening plot of Dept. Q comes from a book by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen. Goode's Carl Morck is a highly-regarded detective in Edinburgh who works on a cold case. The issue is that he has a past where a partner was injured and another police officer died.

The extremely well-written series should not be a one-off, though, unless Netflix deems it to be so. Adler-Olsen has a series of books involving Morck, so there is a lot of source material to choose from. Let's hope for fans' and the cast's sake, there is a season 2. And maybe a season 3 and 4, too.
