Denzel Washington and Robert Pattinson thriller coming to Netflix

Back in 2020, it was big news in film circles when Netflix picked up the original script by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Simon Kinberg for Here Comes The Flood in an undisclosed seven-figure deal. Then, the agreement for this not-so-conventional heist movie seems to have fallen into the shadows, with the early possibility that Jason Bateman will direct an iteration that will never occur.

Five years on, and the whole project is back on track, with the directing duties, production team, and principal cast officially announced. Here Comes The Flood, based on Kingberg’s screenplay, will have a strong cast featuring Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Daisy Edgar-Jones in key roles.

Oscar-nominated Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles takes on directing duties, and Samson Mucke is executive producer. The production is yet to start, so no trailers or release date are available.

What is Here Comes The Flood going to be about?

So far, the plot details are pretty sketchy, but it is described as an unconventional heist movie involving a bank guard, a bank teller, and a master thief. The story is supposed to evolve in a non-linear fashion and will involve quite a few cons and double crosses.

The initial scheming seems to be between a bank guard and the master thief, the rise and fall of the guard’s relationship with a bank teller, where the key con is supposed to reveal itself. It sounds tricky and intriguing, but the announced team sounds promising enough to make it all work.

Who is in the Here Comes The Flood team?

• Oscar-nominated screenwriter Simon Kinberg, who wrote the script for Mr and Mrs Smith series and is also involved in writing for the new Star Wars trilogy, will also be in the production team, and Audrey Chon (Genre Films), as is Fernando Meirelles, the director of this project.
• Simon Meirelles originally earned a nomination for best director in 2002 for the masterpiece The City of God. He later earned three Oscar nominations for the Netflix project The Two Popes and the thriller The Constant Gardener.
• Denzel Washington currently ranks as one of the most renowned actors on the scene, starring in so many projects, with his last two projects being Gladiator II and Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest, a project that will have its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
• Robert Pattinson will also have a film at the current Cannes Film Festival in director Lynne Ramsay’s film, Die Another Day. He will also be seen in the upcoming Kristopher Bogli feature, The Drama, alongside Zendaya.
• Daisy Edgar-Jones became better known as part of the romantic drama series Normal People and was one of the stars of the 2024 disaster film Twisters.
