Brett Favre's best years might be in the past. Perhaps his NFL days were the highlight of his life. That would be sad, but it could also be true. There was little doubt Favre was worthy of Pro Football Hall of Fame induction, but his retirement has probably not been fun.
One issue stems from his late career, when he played for the New York Jets. For many, Favre will always be seen as a member of the Green Bay Packers, where he had his best seasons and won a Super Bowl. Later in his career, he bounced around the league a bit.
A new Netflix documentary that reviews Favre's issues over the last couple of decades highlights a situation that occurred when he was with New York. The Fall of Favre, coming to your favorite streamer on May 20, will shed some light on Favre allegedly sending lewd photos to Jets reporter Jenn Sterger.
The Fall of Favre takes a look into Brett Favre's off-field issues
He was never found criminally liable, but the NFL fined him $50,000 for not fully cooperating with the league's investigation into the matter. The issue for Favre, if he cares at all, is that his part of that story will not be heard during the Netflix doc because he refused to be interviewed for the project.
The same will hold true for another issue the documentary will investigate. That issue concerns Favre's being accused of accepting welfare funds for speaking engagements. The situation occurred in Favre's home state of Mississippi, and the former quarterback denied any wrongdoing.
Favre has been fairly litigious over his issues. He filed two defamation lawsuits against former players-turned-talking heads Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee (the McAfee suit has been dropped) for what they said about Favre and the welfare funds situation. One wonders how he will react to the new Netflix doc.
We should assume Netflix will take an honest and observant approach to Brett Favre. That does not mean his fans will appreciate the doc. As long as it is fair, however, not much dispute can be made.
