Whenever the weekend hits, we inevitably reach for the remote and continue our latest Netflix binge or we're on the hunt for the show that comes next. Usually, it's the latest new season of whatever was just dropped, but sometimes, we need a show with more substance. Something that will keep us entertained for more than just Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday.
While Netflix has an incredible selection of shows that you can breeze through in either one sitting or one weekend, the streamer boasts an extensive collection of binge-watches that are a multi-sitting occasion. That's where the shows from years past, with more than eight or 10 episodes per season come in. The shows that are a lengthy commitment and require your full attention.
There are countless shows to choose from on Netflix right now with all of the recent additions of classics and underrated favorites from years past. Sitcoms, sci-fi shows, crime procedurals, and various dramas have joined Netflix's ranks, but these charming titles that range in genre will warm your soul with nostalgia, laughs, and even a bit of mystery and intrigue.

Veronica Mars
Even though the revival season soured a lot of fans' feelings toward the series, I will never lose my love for Veronica Mars and I will never not recommend the show to new viewers. All four seasons of the show were added to Netflix this year, and if you haven't ever taken a trip to Neptune, California, this is your sign to join the world's best teen detective for all of her high-stakes cases.
Kristen Bell stars in the teen crime drama as the titular Veronica Mars, a rough-around-the-edges teenager whose curiosity is outmatched only by her wit. Aside from helping her private detective father, Veronica's known around her high school as the girl who can get stuff done. Between solving the mystery of her best friend's murder, she's also taking on cases-of-the-week.
You will be instantly charmed by Veronica as she untangles years of secrets and solves crimes that not even her local authorities could crack. Veronica Mars boasts three seasons from the original 2004-2007 run, as well as the fourth season, which dropped on Hulu in 2019. Better yet, the 2014 movie will soon be added to Netflix in May for a marathon of the complete collection.
Dawson's Creek
There's just something about teen dramas from decades past that's just far more charming than the ones produced today. Maybe it's the absence of cell phones and social media, maybe it's the rose-colored glasses that nostalgia brings, but you can't go wrong ever with a cozy rewatch of a show from the '90s and early 2000s. That's why Dawson's Creek should make its way onto your watch list.
We hear about Gilmore Girls, The O.C., One Tree Hill, and even Gossip Girl (a late-aughts hit) all the time, but Dawson's Creek gets left out of these conversations. Let's get back into it, people! Peronsally, I love these highly emotional kids from Capeside with an elevated vocabularly. With six seasons, this is an escape that sees its characters through highs, lows, and many love triangles.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
I'm not sure how everyone's feeling lately, but I have decided that it's time for us all to rewatch Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Last year, the comedy from Tina Fey and starring Ellie Kemper celebrated its 10th anniversary, and there wasn't nearly enough celebration. So, let's run it back and revisit one of the first great Netflix original comedy series, shall we?
For those who missed the on ramp back in 2015, the series stars Kemper as the titular Kimmy, who was abducted at 13 and spent half her life held captive in a bunker as part of a doomsday cult. When she's released at 29, she's re-entering the world with the spirit of a tween, fearless and ready to take on New York City. Four seasons of laughs will take longer than a weekend to enjoy!
Blackish
Last but certainly not least, as there are plenty more shows that we could recommend, there's something so comforting and cozy about a family comedy. Blackish aired on ABC during a prime era for the network's laugh-out-loud family comedies, like Modern Family, The Middle, American Housewife, and more. Thankfully, all eight seasons of the series are still on Netflix.
Blackish centers on the upper class Johnson family in Los Angeles as they explore what how a modern Black family navigates their community and the events of society during the show's run from 2014 to 2022. Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross lead an excellent ensemble that delivers heartfelt humor and timely looks at American culture. These 175 episodes are worth the long binge.
